IC2, Congratulations! That must be a real sense of accomplishment! I got interested in my car again now that I am finished my summer job and I attended the NSRA Nationals in Richmond just a mile or so down the street. I got the "It's-A-Snap" headlights with the separate yellow LED at the bottom of the bulb and an H4 in the headlight section and then insert LED kits for the '29 tailights from Bratton up the road in Md. In a flurry of activity yesterday I got the radiator reinstalled once I decided to keep the flex fan on the Zip pump riser. I will post a picture of the Zip on another thread. I am going to have to tow the car to a muffler shop before I can crank it up since I do not have a welder, or maybe I can bolt the whole muffler system on with U-bolts? I would like to have the stainless Mustang pipes and mufflers but that involves heli-arc welding anyway. Here is a picture from the Richmond meet just for eye candy, but it was inspiring to get me going again! Was anyone from this Forum there that I missed? I would have liked to meet someone from the Forum, maybe next year? Maybe since this is a '35-'40 thread someone will like this picture of the "Best Paint" award at the Richmond Nationals?

Congrats Dave, getting the motor running is one of those special moments!
Hi Randy, been awhile. Those jambs and latches look great. You do good work and should be proud of your efforts!
I have posted a few times in the past months but they seem to be lost somewhere else. Hopefully this one gets through!

Thanks Don and Mike
It's amazing how a trip to an NSRA show can get the engine cranked up again. Nice '37 for Randy to consider. I use York as my major "crank up" for the season regardless of the fact it isn't cheap to get there any longer
Mike - NSRA Burlington coming up 9/19-21 and you aren't that far......
Don, unless you have a welder, a muffler shop is the only way. If you can find one that can do mandrel bends, that's one to consider. I welded mine up from Summit U and J bends along with a 10' length of exhaust tubing. It was quite a project, but done before the body went onDave W

IC2, you say you like a yellow roadster sans fenders? Here is one from the Richmond meet with a fabululous interior! Of course this is a national meet and only a few rat rods so the other cars are of exceptionally high quality! This '32 had one of the best interiors I have seen in a long time! Sorry to maybe offend this thread but some of these cars are mind boggeling as to excellent quality. I came home and had to accept a multitude of flaws in my build but then I know where they are and maybe no one else will see them from ten feet away, I already know your steel A is nicer than my 'glass A but hey I just want to drive it!

Don, That was so bright it blew out your camera sensor.
Very nice car - but with that "Brand C" engine........ I do like the interior and the finish details.
Picture this with my bright orange paint, a console, a LeCarra wheel and seats in the same material:
As far as quality on mine - the more time I spend working on it, the more flaws I find. Instead of a 5' and 5mph car, it's really closer to a 20' at 30mph. The fenders and other loose pieces turned out nicely, but the body itself....well let's say that Chip Foose doesn't have to worry about my competitionDave W

Are you thinking of going Dave? I may be able to go either Sat. or Sun. maybe make a day trip out of it. If I do it Saturday then I could rest up Sunday.

I've also welded a crack in my fender, fabricated a new inner fender crossbrace (the original one wouldn't clear my AC condensor so I had to get creative). I welded a couple of cracks in my grille too. I'll probably end up using my old repop grille because I'm sure it's as good as the new low-end repop ones and I can't afford the fancy stainless or billet ones. If I can get it to fit properly it won't look bad.
I bought new body mounting pads & bolts but haven't raised the body to install them yet. I want to undercoat the car while I have it up off the frame. That will also give me an opportunity to better seal the underside edges of my new floorboards.
Things would be going a little faster but I've only been able to work on it a few hours on some Saturdays.....that makes for slow progress but I love it so I keep at it. In another couple of weeks I'm going to rent the garage next to mine so I'll have more space to work.....yippee! That will help a lot!
Thanks for the kudos Mike. I've been reading your other posts but just haven't been posting much myself.
Thanks for the great 37 ragtop pic, Don. Beautiful car!
Hopefully will have more to report soon!

Mike - I'll be at Burlington at least Friday and Saturday. I had made the "assumption" my car would be finished ( ) so am registered as a participant. Let me know if you are going and we'll meet up and wander the grounds for a while. Saturday is by far the best day with Sunday starting slow until about noon. Also, lots of folks go home Sunday morning. Do you need directions?
Randy - you are at least making good progress. It amazes me how long these builds take, whether all new like mine or just a major freshening like yours.
That hood fits very nicely now - the '37 to '40 Fords were a bear to line everything up right.Dave W

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
