Another trip to the track.
I tried out a Friday night at the track, and will never do it again. Way to slippery. I managed to get in two runs before giving up. First run was a 10.21 @122 and the last was a 9.94 @135. I was trying out the new Demon carburetor and needed some testing time. When we got home Saturday morning and unloaded the car, it was running like the timing was retarded and I had no oil pressure! I was all set to pull the motor to replace a bad oil pump, and possibly replace the timing chain. I found the problem, thank God! The adjustable collar on the distributor had loosened and it had lifted enough to disengage itself from the oil pump drive. Now I am a firm believer in fate, and this was just another one of those times. My son, (Mcas7) usually goes with my wife and I to the track, and he couldn't make it that night. I think the car knew it and I know that one more 8500rpm pass would have resulted in my little mouse motor exploding somewhere on the track. It's all fixed now, and I'm ready once again. Daytime only please.Mike Casella

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
