Another trip to the track.
I tried out a Friday night at the track, and will never do it again. Way to slippery. I managed to get in two runs before giving up. First run was a 10.21 @122 and the last was a 9.94 @135. I was trying out the new Demon carburetor and needed some testing time. When we got home Saturday morning and unloaded the car, it was running like the timing was retarded and I had no oil pressure! I was all set to pull the motor to replace a bad oil pump, and possibly replace the timing chain. I found the problem, thank God! The adjustable collar on the distributor had loosened and it had lifted enough to disengage itself from the oil pump drive. Now I am a firm believer in fate, and this was just another one of those times. My son, (Mcas7) usually goes with my wife and I to the track, and he couldn't make it that night. I think the car knew it and I know that one more 8500rpm pass would have resulted in my little mouse motor exploding somewhere on the track. It's all fixed now, and I'm ready once again. Daytime only please.Mike Casella

Well, it is a good thing you gave up when you did, wouldent have been good if you blew the motor cause then you'd be out.You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Glad you found the prob b4 it became a BIG prob. Just a silly ???? but, what difference does it make for you at the drag weather it's day or nite...an was it slippery because of rain...humidity...or something else...maybe in the daylight the track stays drier because it's hotter??? Just wondering....You miss 100% of the shots you never take

One little thang we used to do when we 1st started out was to use a fake "cool can" mounted in the trunk with BLEACH in it and a small fuel pump attached and two lines with a spray nozzle goin' to the slicks, so when we did the "Water box" burnouts we just doused the tires with bleach at the same time.. made them stickier and hotter too.. and also with the tires on the edge/ridge of the concrete pad and the blacktop, ya didn't spend as much time in the box either.. Some times it would produce some wild 6-8 foot wheelstands on the launch and sound like someone rippin' adhesive tape off yer arm too
But, ya didn't hear this from me... hehehe
Oh yea ................. and don't use an electric fuel pump edder'.
plastic works fantastic."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.

OH WOW...LONG BURIED MEMORY!!!
I totally forgot about this until I just read your last post...I grew up in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area and one of my best pals in elementary school had an uncle that took me with them a few times to drag races there!!!!! AND GET THIS.... One night...my freind and I got to be the "Bleach Pourers"...how safe is that???? We each took a wheel an poured bottled bleach on the tires while they were spinnin!!!! My mom would just die if she knew I did that...I wonder if she ever wondered why my clothes were all jacked up???? Ha Ha! I never thought about it until you mentioned the word BLEACH...I always thought it was some kind of twisted memory/dream where I remembered being at the races...an musta been thinkin about laundry...but they really did do it!!! OH AN where's that guy that was talkin about what bad parents the "geezers" were for lettin the kids play wif lawn darts..."OK, kids...now don't fall under the tires...pour the bleach on...try not to inhale...an back up as quick as you can when they peel out and shoot rubber chunks all over ya" RIGHT!!!!You miss 100% of the shots you never take

A line locker and bleach in the window washer bottle with some hose runnin to the back wheels is a amazin thing on the street (for the fun factor) never thought about it helpin traction, hehe, must play with this idea!!!Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

good grief...i can't believe that any parent would let kids do that!!!! I guess he wasn't our parents tho! Ha Ha! The more I think about it the worse the possible outcomes could have been!!!! Ha Ha! Well, in addition to the bleach smell, lots of white smoke, the rubber hitting my legs...i remember thinking my pals uncle was the coolest man I ever knew...i think i wanted to marry him...LOL! Oh well, i'm sure he's an ole geezer now...hmmmm none of you guys got the last name Terry do ya? LOL!!!!You miss 100% of the shots you never take

Chemical reaction between the tires and the bleach makes the tires get hotter. Hotter = Stickier = better traction. Most sanctioning bodys have ruled it out due to the various hazards it created, including I believe, causing tires to deteriorate to the point they were not safe.
PatOf course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Also bleach makes more smoke. Streets, that is a really good idea that you mentioned up there, I should try that one day when I get a car. heh. Do you have to spin the tires if you have DOT approved slicks where they aren't completely smooth but have a little tread on them like some that Mickey Thompson makes?www.streamlineautocare.com
If you wan't something done right, then you have to do it yourself!
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
