OK guys...my gut hurts...cool your jets or something... we(Burty and I) were just pokin fun here! 12,000...no 18,000...
Straight jackets for everyone!!!!!!

hasnt anyone payed attention? i said he <the man who owns the car> takes a 262 chevy sbc, puts the 2 and 7/8ths inch stroke callies crank into it and runs an old iron head nicknamed the turbo head.
UMMM, the old iron head nick named the" turbo head" you are refering to is the predecessor to the Bow Tie head we have now.Quote:

Scooter,
I think perhaps your guy with the 265inch motor is overstating a bit. If not I'm real impressed that he got enough airflow past a set of worked over double hump heads to let a motor turn up past 9000, never mind 12,000rpm. The strain on the valvetrain alone goes up pretty much goes up like a lunar rocket as rpms head north of say 8000. Granted, crotch rocket two stroke race bikes wind up well past 15,000(scary thought)...but they are a whole different beast!
I think I can safely say that all of us are curious enough to hear some actual specs of this mystifying 265 motor. If you get a chance...see if you can get the owner of this motor to give you the full specs on his motor...I mean everything! That way the truly talented, experienced, and wise motorheads here(and FYI...I do NOT consider myself worthy of that list) on this forum can evaluate the motor specs and make up their own mind as to what it's really capable of turning up to! Seems fair. My guess is that it really turns up to 8000 or so and he put a real fancy tach in it and tells people it goes 12,000. Come to think of it, where do you even find a tach for a V8 that will read to 12,000rpm? HMMM....
George
after i post the specs bill, please kill this thread
ever read a jegs catalog?

So where you in the car when he was turning this engine to 12,000 rpm's??:rolleyes:Quote:

i wasent in the car but i know that bill wouldnt lie about it
What we have here is some of the very best bench racing in the world.
It reminds me of the old 5.0 boys and their 8,000 rpm engines that run 10.20's with a 3.55 gear and a 125 shot of n20.
It looks like I need to break open a case of the old BS spray.
I might have to bring in a crop duster if it keeps up.:whacked:
Just stopped by to see wuzzup' . I was dissapointed to see the end.     More plz. :3dSMILE:
:HMMM: lets see, that was the head chevy introduced in 1975 part no 3965784 and casting no 340292 closed chamber 2.02 amnd 1.6 valves and they can take the larger valve springs.Quote:

I would like to know if it's 110, 220 or 3 phase.
I'm kiddin'....I'm kiddin'.....
This is getting harsh...
High rpm motors do exist. Nascar stuff runs 9500rpm for 500 miles at a clip. Prostock guys are now cresting 10,000rpms in 500cubic inch motors(with MONSTER spring pressures). Jesel industries caters to these types of racers. I have never(as of yet) heard of a pushrod V8 motor making useful power past a bit over 10,000. Even $50,000+ motors! I realize that tiny stroke sbc chevys should have an easier time spinning up and theoretically I do believe it is possible to reach 12,000. But holy crap would that be a difficult and expensive build, never mind WHY! Anyone that can still produce usable power at even 9000rpm in a pushrod V8 and still keep it together has my respect for sure.
If this guy has a motor that produces useble power to 12,000rpm he should be commended...h@!! he should get a medal or something! I'd be happy to eat my words here, but I still have a feeling this guy is overstating his motors rpm capabilities a bit.

#3 PICS ARE COMING
I just wanted everyone to know I just got in from racing the space shuttle and I won. EASILY. My motor now goes to 22,000 rpm's after I loosened up the valves a little.....although I think I have a ticket coming because I ran the toll on the milky way........Burt
Now that is an obvious bulldust statement :p
But what the heck !;) we are all a little nuts in here today:LOL:
Hopefully it's 3 phase, they run a lot cheaper!!!!  :LOL:Quote:

Well to be fair he did say that the stroke was under chevy 302 which is 3", I think 2 7/8 was mention for this motor under discussion.
My only worry is how does the valvetrain hold together at high revs. I can figire reving that high with a missed shift going down the dragstrip, a quick blip up there and backing off.
Hank,go back and read post #130.Quote:

12,000 RPM isn't impossible, all the F1 cars run at least that, and many of the CART and IRL engines are bumping it.... But consistently with a flat tappet cam in a small block that still is making usable horsepower up there??? Put me on the doubters list....
F1 is pushin 20,000 rpm's on some of the straightaways... put me on the doubters list for makin that much power as well. Why do you need it to rev that high, why not be happy w/ 7,500 or so rpm's.
