    i think there is more needed than fluid, a th400 holds around 12 quarts if the converter is drained, 5 or 6 if just the pan is dropped, that is also where you will find the filter. and correct, new fluid in anything over 70,000 miles will probably work all the dirt deposits loose in the case, and catastropic failure is possible.
