Everybody that is currently building a car...

Hey guys. I recently came into posession of a 1941 GMC pickup rat rod and thought I would post a few pics of the progress Ive made. I got the truck last Sunday (4-16-06) and finally started workin on it Tuesday (4-18-06). So far, all ive done is change the rear tires and wheels, paint the cab and bed, get the grille painted and mounted, and got the engine mocked up. The chassis was boxed and had the steering and brakes already hooked up.

The chassis is from a 39 Dodge pickup. The engine is a 1969 Vette block /w 66 vette camelback heads, havent decided on a tranny yet. the grille has been chopped and is from a 1935 Ford coupe. The front axle is a 1928 Ford and a Ford 9" rear. The rear tires have some white portawalls on them, they are 29x15.5 Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro's, the front tires are 29x7.5 whitewalls.

You made all this progess in 6 days??? Even God rested on the 7th day.:) :) :)

Thanks guys. I hope to have it road worthy within 2 or 3 weeks. I have everythin here I need to do it, its just hard doing all this stuff by yourself (Yes, ive done all the work myself and dont plan on getting any help! I want this to be MY rat rod) and finding the time around work to do it.

Here's my project that I've been working on for almost two years now. A '26 or '27 T Coupe (its an '05 according to the state of Kansas......bastards). The frame firewall back is a Model A Z'd 8", from the firewall foward is a late 20's Willys Six flipped upside down, or underslung, all of it's boxed. Rear is a 7.5" Ford out of a Ranger. Wheels are Ford wires powdercoated red with the rear's split and widened to 8" and the bolt pattern changed to 5x4.5 (thanks dad). Front brakes are Pinto, and steering is via '91 Fiesta rack and pinion (and it works VERY well). The engine is an 8RT flathead with a "Multipower" intake with dual Holley 94's. Carb scoops are homemade out of an oil intake from a Cat diesel engine (thanks dad). The car made some rounds at local car shows last year in red oxide, but its in peices right now for paint. So far the frame is painted and back together with the engine in place. Sunday I'll be painting enough of the body to get it back on the frame so I can wheel it to a friends shop for paint.

Final details will be replacing the rear radials with wide-whites to match the front, and a bench seat to replace the ugly-ass tweed buckets. The wires will be going on a future project and I'm gonna run smoothie wheels on this car, I like them better.

Very very nice piece of quick work peiceofpaper, whats the dash look like? I like the look of the fat rear tires too. What are the brakes in front, drum or disc? Straight axle?

Thats a wild looking steering wheel hellcaminokid, matches the interior well. What year is the truck, 88?

I have the Duster running now and almost everything woriking. Looking forward to working on my ride this weekend. Do any of you know where to get a picture walkthrough of installing an aftermarket power window kit in your ride.My glass is done and my keyless system is one the way so I am getting close to being ready to install everything.

Well, we took my friend Rodney's Comet to the chassis dyno today. The results were quite satisfying for a 460 with flat tops and a set of Victor heads. Should run good in the 2600 pound car!!! I'll get some pics of the car sometime, it's one I built in 1995 celebrating it's 3rd or 4th comeback!!! Hmmm.. Must not have scanned it right...doesn't show the RPM. Anyway, HP is the blue line, peaked at 7,000. Bottom chart is air fuel, started at 13.5, dropped to 12.6.... Temp was on 65 degrees, should fatten up some with warmer air....

The flathead is a 239 8RT truck engine. Largely stock internally. No shots of the interior, there really isn't one yet. Just an empty dash panel and two ugly tweed buckets. By summer's end I should have at least the door panels and glass in, but finishing the paint and getting it driveable again has been the biggest priority. After this weekend the body should be back on the frame, though only the inside, underside and firewall will be painted (I'm letting a friend who's a pro paint the exterior). I've got a set of '36 Ford gauges I'm thinking about using, provided I can get the speedometer cable to fit into the transmission, its tight down there.

Dave, that black beauty belongs to a good friend of mine that has had a string of guys work(and mess up) on his ground up restoration of this low millage '72. He ask me to come in and finish putting it together. Fresh 350 hp 318 w/904 w/ shift kit. Everything is brand new, it's a beauty. It's running now and will be heading to the drive line shop tuesday. Next will be ripping the slant out of this car and dropping in a 450 hp 440 he has in his back room! That will be alot of fun too!:cool:

That should be a fun one!!!! I've still got a 440 Magnum I've got to find a home for someday........ Wouldn't happen to have a GTX laying around somewhere, would ya??

Thanks Brickman. It has no dash right now, the interior is 90% gutted, very little of anything left. the drum brakes and straight axle came of a 1940's F1, not sure of the year though.
