Dave, the front of the Camaro looks great! It looks like it's ready to chew up some Fords and spit them out.
Seriously, that's some top notch work.
Your car looks great, too, Bobby. That's some straight looking sheetmetal.

What I want to see is what size Ford engine that 'Maro will going to hold in that nice big engine bay

It is really, really tempting to set a Ford in the 'maro---but it's being built for resale, just not sure how many would be interested in a Ford powered chebbie..... and now that I was given a 383 for it....well, guess it's gonna be all chebbie....Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

It's tough, Dave.... but knowing that when the 'maro is all done and sold the money will be going for Ranchero parts, well, I guess that's the thing that keeps me going on it. All of the Ford guys around have established a boycott of my garage til it's gone!!!!! I tell ya what, after being one of the Ford Only guys around here for so many years, I catch a bunch of **** about building a 'maro everyday---even if it is just for resale!!!!! A few months back some of the chebbie guys even went so far as to send me a card congratulating me on my "rebirth"----it had almost 100 signatures on it!!!!!!

I guess I can almost see your point - as long as the 'Maro is a passing fancy to an end (Ranchero). I get a bunch of the same garbage here from the Chebbie guys as to why do I stick with Ford when their brand is so easy to build and get parts. My answer is that life is not a dress rehearsal and since you only pass by here once, it might as well be done the right way.
Another thing to lay on the Chebbie owners - I was at Williams Grove Speedway outside of Mechanicsburg, PA a couple of months ago as a change from my normal local tracks - and the tow vehicles, and I checked how many of each brand were hauling their Chebbie race cars - and without exaggeration it was approximately 80% FORD with the rest split between Chebbie/GMC and Dodges (you know the sales BS - it's a hemi
). This is the same kind of percentage I see at any race track I attend, plus people pulling big campers and even as a corporate work truck

Yup, most everything you see around here for a toter is either a Ford or a Dodge....If I get the time next spring, might start on a new toter for me....Old Ford body with a 12 valve Cummins (Dodge) with a 5 speed.... As for the Hemi's, they're kewl engines and work out quite well in the cars, but for a truck I got to have a diesel, thank you....
As to the 'maro, it's already up for sale....a few of the local boys have looked at it, think they may get more interested once the suspension and body work is done.... Just like everywhere else, everybody is an engine "expert" but few have any understanding or interest in a chassis that might actually be able to hook up the power!!!!!!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

...the best possible combo......a Ford body/chassis and a Cummins engine - even the later 24V version. I would have bought that in a heartbeat instead of the V10. For a diesel all Ford offers are those maintenance nightmares, the 6.0 and 6.4. The Ford Truck Enthusiasts web site has one very long thread with that conversion but I lost that particular threads link.Dave W

I've got a friend who's worked as a diesel wrench his entire life....Swears by the Cummins 12 valve engine. He's going to assist in the set-up of things when the time comes to build it... I've started accumulating a few things, mostly just as I run across something I need (or just like) at a decent price.... Going to be going with the Banks goodies to up the power a bit, too..... For sure it will be a 1 ton Ford chassis with the suspension dropped and softened up to give it a decent ride....Everything else is still in the planning stage.....

Actually got a bit of work done over the weekend for a change!!!!! Got the panels for the inside of the box on the '71 pick-em-up etched, primed, and painted white, should be able to reinstall them this week. Nothing much left but to skin, prep, and paint the racerback fairing and the tailgate and it'll be done and ready to go up for sale finally!!!!!
Drug out the front fenders and deck lid for old Buford. They were sandblasted a few years back by the previous owner, then left laying around in the shop.... Had to spot-blast a few spots, then sand, etch, and prime.... Might actually get Buford in the garage sometime this year!!!!
Before quitting today, we put Greg's '68 Galaxie in the shop. Going to get going on it now... Refitting some seats out of a Grand Marquis, install some patch panels on the rear quarter, and bend up and install all new brake lines!!!!! The rust around here has turned them into junk so the best way is to start over with all new lines....
A good weekend, lots of little things got caught up, great weather, worked on Hot Rods, played with my Grandaughter for awhile, just generally a good time!!!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

No progress for me Dave, but glad your making headway. I went up to a friends house in the country solitude, shot the new glock at a few tin cans, tried my friends 270 deer rifle which I'll be borrowing until I get my own, and went to a 4H benefit dinner, bid 75 bucks and won 25 pounds of grass fed beef! Nice relaxing weekend, but not much progress. Hopefully Next friday when my friend is in town we can try and get the truck moving!Pretzel and Tiva enjoyed the change in scenery too! On a car note, saw quite a few exotics on a road rally thru there, and a lot of old stock T's doing some sort of group event. All and all nice weekend!Last edited by stovens; 09-13-2009 at 08:37 PM.
