    E15

    Time to stir the pot

Just wondering what other peoples thoughts are on adding another 5% more ethanol to the already crappy E10 gas we're getting.

I know performance and mileage wise my 87 Ram 50 (9:1 283 Chevy) and 57 Plymouth (10:1 354 Hemi) both like non ethanol a lot better than E10. The 83 El Camino (8.5:1 500 Caddy) gets better mileage but no noticeable performance gain with non-ethanol.

I suspect the fuel lines, needles and seats, fuel pumps etc will handle the extra ethanol OK. I sure hope so anyway, it was painful changing all that stuff out when E10 became the only available fuel here. They say the E15 is OK for cars built after 2001......of course the newest vehicle we own is the 87 Dodge

And before someone brings it up there are only 23 stations in AZ that sell non-ethanol gas and the closest on to me is 150 miles away.

    .
I've NEVER seen a car come from the factory that couldn't be improved.....

I don't know if I can add anything you don't already know.. Here in Mass all we can get is your basic E-10. And I've had no trouble with it.

I do know that if the station doesn't "move" enough gas, the latter part of that last shipment in can separate and the E-10 can become E-40? 50? 60?

But by that same thinking, The alcohol supposedly goes to the bottom, so the E-10 could actually (potentially) become E-5 (7, 6, 4) all a supposition on my part! LOL.. I guess what I'm saying is you've maybe been running more ethanol than you know!

Besides the govt subsidies - without which thete would be no ethanol, it's too expensive:

Then there is the point of higher food prices - resultant of farmers growing ethanol corn rather than food staple corn:

Then there is the minutea presented by the ethanol producing less power therefore creating a less efficient fuel:

Speaking of efficiency, let's not forget to factor in the fuel consumption resultant of the ethanol production, as farm equipment doesn't run on hope and dreams:

Where were we? Looking for drawbacks in further diluting our fuel to deliberately reduce its power and most probably create a fuel that will be yet more destructive to our fuel systems?

Gee if only I had an answer devoid of sarcasm, I'd give it.

Well, I do like breathing cleaner air, and the ethanol does lower emissions.

farm equipment runs on off road diesel . around here we grow several different type of corn . feed corn mostly. i doubt any farmer is going to drop his production to change over . with the new trade deals profits on crops should rise quite nicely .

Couldn't have said it better myself. One of the few things Trump is wrong on. Common sense went out the window as far as ethanol is concerned and the emission savings is miniscule and so much BS. The clown in NHRA pro stock that is sponsored by that garbage should have to run it in his car.

I like the way Henry Ford said it.
Oil is for lubricating. Alcohol is for burning.
He felt our cars should be running on alcohol not burning our limited supply of lube.

But history is already written and we can't change it. No matter how many statues we remove. (grin)
Brazil can run almost their entire fleet of cars nationwide and offer choices. Might not be a bad thing for us as a nation. Heck I'd probably dump the worthless cranberries / blueberries and switch over to get a cash crop that actually pays.

I think all the ethanol stuff sucks when you have carbs etc. (I'm talking about something stock original that isn't allowed to be modified from OEM) At work we have less and less gas stuff but at the airport they also have a much higher alcohol content in the gas than what they claim. UPS and us have had several carb failures from all the alcohol in the gas.

The whole growing corn for ethanol has turned the farming industry upside down. The yields they get from all these hybrids is pretty crazy. 240-300 bushels per acre during a drought is crazy. Aside from that, this enhanced corn has not so good side effects that none of the political people care to talk about. It's just like all the added hormones added into beef and every other mass raised meat/produce.

I'd like to hear about the side effects, specifically.

without gmo farmers could not raise enough food per acre to feed the people . do some research on yield per acre .

What's really surprising to folks is that food crops have been altered since the beginning of time!!
Cross breeding of corn for instance and genetic modification has been going on forever! Apples is another one! There are more varieties of apples now than when Johnny Appleseed walked across the states, And how did all this modification come to pass??? It wasn't just mother nature, I can guarantee you that!

The list is endless. Now I'm not saying what "they" are doing is always a good thing, it's the same thing with chickens or cattle or hogs etc. etc. etc., but modification has always been there. Mankind has always been tinkering - trying to make things better.

Apples and oranges. The land being used to raise corn for ethanol production was for the most part, being used to raise corn for livestock and has been mentioned earlier if it wasn't for government subsidies it would literally die on the vine. Why is the federal government subsidizing corporate farmers, but let the electronic industry go down the toilet?

Or why does the corporation get the subsidy but the little guys like me get crushed.

You don't have to reply, I already learned the answer years back!
