What's really surprising to folks is that food crops have been altered since the beginning of time!!
Cross breeding of corn for instance and genetic modification has been going on forever! Apples is another one! There are more varieties of apples now than when Johnny Appleseed walked across the states, And how did all this modification come to pass??? It wasn't just mother nature, I can guarantee you that!
The list is endless. Now I'm not saying what "they" are doing is always a good thing, it's the same thing with chickens or cattle or hogs etc. etc. etc., but modification has always been there.
