    Cleaned Up The Jeep

Mama's wanting to take the Jeep to Colorado to see some high country so I cleaned it up a little, buffed some of the brush scratches out of the hood & sides, and spent a few hours trying to get the dust out of the interior so we won't choke. Thought I'd post a couple of shots since it hasn't been this clean in a couple of years or more ....

She's nothing special, 2" budget boost using pucks in the rear and ACOS adjustable in the front on stock springs & longer shocks; 1" body lift, with 1" motor mount boost to keep things aligned; Rocker Guards, Engine & Tranny guard, gas tank guard, radiator bottom guard, steering box guard & front differential guard; JKS upper & lower control arms front & rear; and Warn 8000# winch running on 33x12.5x15 BFG KM2 Mud Terrain's. She got new plugs, oil & filter changed, and a freon boost for that loooong drive across Kansas .

Where in Colo are you going? Lots of stuff to see before they close everything to off roading.

We're heading to the Salida area first, got an old HS friend that lives there, and will do some of the high trails & passes that are not too hairy. Traveling alone I don't get into the extreme stuff, but we're equipped to be OK on most of the sane trails. Then we'll head NW to the Leadville/Vail/Fairplay area, loop back along the south of I70 around Breckenridge/Montezuma, then drop down towards Colorado Springs and head home. We'll be doing the easy to moderate trails each day, then moving on towards new areas. All that could change as we get out there and start playing....

Ya' got that right! Just got my eyes opened about Colorado lodging. We had booked a place in Salida, and found that just about every place was booked for Saturday, but figured that it was a "weekend thing". Not true!! I started laying out a plan this morning (nothing like waiting until the last minute.....) and did some internet shopping for the Leadville/Fairplay area. Turns out that July is the busiest month of the year for the south central part of the state for trails, ATV's, rafting and general outdoor activities! If you want to play up high it's best to plan ahead!! Managed to get it covered, but we now have a confirmed plan for each night! So much for keeping it flexible....

Roger, I don't know if you can still access the BLM land at Green Mtn Reservoir between SilverTHORNE and Kremmling but it used to be some great viewing and easy jeep'n back when I lived in Summit Country in the early '70s - - - there also used to be a jeep trail out of Frisco up to Mason Town (an old mining town) and then from there you could hike up to the top of Mt. Royal and look down on the interstate - - - we had an old army jeep with a Studebaker Champion engine that we played with when we were there and I wouldn't take anything for the memories - - - all you had to do was take a quart of oil with you when you left home. hahaha used to lay the windshield down and my best four legged friend ever would lay there on the hood until he saw a "Alvin" cross the road and then the race was on. Sorry about the hi-jack but I couldn't stop typing and I am green with envy but wishing you a safe and happy journey.

Have a fun and safe trip, Roger and Mrs.

That's a nice looking Jeep you have there. I can imagine how much fun it could be on some nice back roads.

Roger, check with the forest service perhaps online first, a lot of the areas are closed due to fires and fire danger. You might find that parts of the state are more open than others.

Kinda fulfilling to do a major clean up ain't it! Have a fun trip, and wave to Solomon for me on your way past.
