Some prayers, please
I'm at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Ia., not exactly my usual place for a Sunday morning.
My grandaughter is in the Hospital, Pediatrics ICU. Her tramp of a mother who left my son about a year or so seems to have been abusing both girls--she of course alleges it was her boyfriend (he was locked up on Thursday afternoon), but both are suffering from malnutrition and I've seen the bruises. IMO even if she didn't physically beat the girls she's as guilty as the boyfriend for allowing it to take place....you decide for yourself...
Anyway, Alexus (we call her Lexie) is suffering from a severe potassium and sodium shortage...along with two bleeders in her brain creating excessive craniul pressue. Yesterday afternoon they did a procedure to alleviate some of the pressure and her response was most favorable--but she is still a long ways from out of danger.. We'll be meeting with the Nuerologist (sp) this morning to hear his findings from the MRI's and other tests.
When the nurse was checking her at 4AM she did recognize "Grandpa", and was responsive to a few other questions. She appears to be sleeping somewhat comfortably now.
Please, your prayers for her!! She's going to need a lot of them.
So far, I've not said anything to her mother and probably best it remain that way... I have been assured that Child Protective Services are investigating, and been asked to be available to speak with them Monday morning. Hopefully they'll get her locked up too!!! I have my own thoughts about how the entire situation should be handled, but they're probably (for now at least) best left to be just my private thoughts...
No child should ever have to be subjected to such treatment!!! Both the girls have medical issues to be dealt with, and I'm sure other issues as well later on. If you would, add Alexus and Alisha to your prayers, they really need them!!!!

You got'em buddy! Nothing but good thoughts, and prayers for the girls! I can't and won't comment 'bout the rest, it would serve no good purpose anyway. I just hope the girls can find their way into a better situation.
-
Dave,
I'm so sorry to hear about your granddaughters' situation, and especially about Lexie and her injuries. Kids are amazingly resilient, but as you say no child should be subjected to abuse. Both girls will be in our prayers this morning, and in coming days and weeks. It's good that you are there for them, my friend. How old are the girls?
-
-
OMG, Dave, that is absolutely horrible. Bad enough that kids get sick for no reason sometimes , but when it happens because of something a Parent does it is just so inexcusable. Whatever happened to the days when Mothers would rather die than hurt their children? (ie, Casey Anthony )
Our prayers and best wishes will be coming your way. Please keep us posted as to how she is doing. Please do whatever you can to keep this woman away from the girls in the future............I know the Authorities can be non responsive at times, but please become a squeeky wheel, for the girls sake.
So sad.
Don

Cindy's and my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your granddaughters
-
Dave - I'll put in some good words too.
-
You got it Dave.Maybe for your granddaughters behalf you should contact a lawyer.(yes I know how we all hate lawyers)Let a lawyer work with child protective services for the kids and your rights and advise you.Just a thought.
-
Dave, I'm gettin' ready to see my Grandson this afternoon to give him a model dragster I picked up for him at the Rt. 66 Nats on Friday. These little people are God's gift to grandparents for sure. I'm so very sorry for what they & you are going through, I can only imagine my little guy in that situation. I'll be praying this all works out well, full recovery and a better life situation for both girls going forward.
Sure glad you are there for them. God may use you to help answer those prayers.
-
Oh man, Dave, I can't imagine what the girls have been through but I think I can imagine what the situation is doing to you.
I have never met you but after 6+ years of reading you I feel like I know you. I'm sure a lot of other people here feel the same way.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Jim

Dave,Chris and my prayers are with the kids you and your family. I have been fortunate this past week to have 2 of our granddaughtes here with us. I don't know what I'd do in your place but it probably wouldn't be prity. Keep the faith the Lord will deal the cards.
-
You got it bud!
I just don't get this kind of thing............we see it all too often, but I just can't wrap my head around it. There must be a "special" place in hell for these kind of people.
As for Lexie, I hope the rest of the family can help put her back on the path to health.
-
Dave, my thoughts and prayers for the girls and you also. I get so angry that situations like this can happen. Please keep us posted.
-
I am with Uncle Bob on this one. How brave of a man or woman does it take to physically hurt children. Dave hopefully you will be able to remove the girls from this terrible situation and they can be little girls again never to look back. Our prayers are with you and the girls!
-
Dave, My prayers are with them both and with you too.
Pat

You can count me in with prayers as well Dave. Sure hope the brain bleeds don't cause any permanent damage. I just spent a week with two of my grandsons in DC and what a joy. Sounds like the father needs custody of those two little angels.
-
You've got them from here, Dave, in Hearts - I'll save the spades for the other side of the equation. Having been in a similar situation, as an Uncle, I have an idea what you may be going through; if it was my Granddaughters, I'm sure I would not be here to offer you support.
'Scuse me, now while I go "unclench".

Thanks so much for the concern and the prayers, just stopping back for a minute to post a link to Lexi's page ;

my prwyers are with you all. these things are hard on everyone with a brain. i dont think folks should have a second chance to do it again, we shoot sick animals for their own good. this fits rite in.
-
Dave, I don't post here very often, but wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers are with your granddaughters.
Mick
-
Dave,as stated earlier I feel like I know you and the grankids will be in our prayers. We really have some cruel parents and people in this world.
A day of reckoning is coming.
Just hard to believe that someone would do such a thing.
-
Dave, I just got back in town and saw this. My heartfelt prayers go out to you and yours. I will pray that God takes this in his hands and that his will be done. Please keep us informed of the girls.
-
Our thoughts and prayers are all with you and your family, Dave. Thankfully she's being taken care of now, and there should be enough evidence to get her out of that situation. There's nothing sadder than a little one in a disfunctional family lacking in love and care...I'm sure it breaks your heart to see. Keep us all posted on how things are going...
-
Dave..its Monday here, just gone midday,so I have only just got on and seen this..What a way to wreck a guys lunch break..Mate,,our prayers are with you,and your grandchildren,100%..I dont know how anyone could do this to their kids..its just completely mind numbing,,especially since I never got a chance to have any kids of my own,,and by the time Lynda and I got married,it was too late, due to her not being able to have them..So to see/hear of people abusing/injuring theirs is absolutely dumbfounding..
I will contact Lynda at work now,,and she can put you and your little ones on our church prayer list...immediately..I also feel I have got to know you a certain amount, and it hurts to think of you up there with blood in ya eyes,so to speak..As much as it hurts,,dont do anything silly,mate..although,we would probably all be behind you..
KIA KAHA BROTHER..Be strong..
-
Dave,

Thoughts and prayers for you and your family. As a father it's unthinkable, as much as they push your buttons, you never ever ever EVER abuse your children!
Keith
-
Dave - just logged on and saw this - Please know Joanie and I will keep you and your grand daughters in our prayers, trusting in a great God to intervene here in a mighty and powerful way.
Glenn
-
Dave we will keep them in our prayers!! So very sorry to hear about this.

Monday morning, Lexie had a good nights sleep and woke up seeming to be much more "with it" this morning. We talked, as much as you can with an 18 month old, played with her stuffed animals, then just rubbed her back and told her how much we all love her and want her to get better!!!! Doctor's should be making their rounds soon, should know more about her then but in my (Non-Professional) opinion Lexi has improved a bunch since this time yesterday!!!!!! Thanks so much for all your prayers and well wishes.
Justice is sometimes strange, isn't it??? The creep of a boyfriend who did part of this damage to the kids is in jail in Muscatine, Ia......Where I can't get at him for a "discussion".....But, there is another gentleman up here who's son is in the hospital also, and he's a part time deputy in Muscatine. He mentioned to me some of the really nasty things that happen to people in jail who are child abusers and how terrible it would be if word got out that this clown who abused the girls who is in jail and is a child abuser.... Hmmmmmm.... Sometimes other prisoners just happen to overhear this sort of information, and well, things sometimes "just happen" in jail I guess!!!!!!:rolleyes::rolleyes:
-

-
I'm hopeing the best for your grandchildren and your family Dave. I know how much they all mean to us.
-
Dave hope things get better fast, very sad how people can treat children like that.
-
Dave, I just logged in and started reading this thread. What a thing for anyone to go through, let alone a child. My prayers are with you, your son, and Lexi and by the looks of it, everyones thoughts and prayers are guiding the doctors hands in helping Lexi get better. She is in the best care right now and getting stronger every second.
Hang in there...

That news sounds so promising, Dave. We all hope her condition continues to improve. :) Kids are pretty tough little people.
What you mention about the rest of the prisoners not taking kindly to child molesters or child abusers is absolutely correct. If they found out what he is accused of his life would not be very pleasant.
