I didn't expect to have a few tears coming out of my eyes this morning. I wasn't ready for that. Your gonna have your hands full. Full of LOVE.
I've got a big smile on my face knowing there are two little girls that now have a bright future. Working on cars is fun & all, but what you are doing is making a real difference in Lexi & Lisha's lives and generations to come. Like the proverbial pebble thrown in a pond this will have a positive effect on many people. Look how many smiles there are just on this message board alone.
If I were closer I'd take you up on the cookout invite. lol
Congratulations Dave! Good news!!!!!! Everything should be down hill now!
My eyes are leaking also! Those kids will now be in a much better place and be able to sleep with good dreams for a change. I'm so happy for You & Grandma! Give'em a hug from all of us here (your other family!
This news makes my day, ya done good boy.
ok, excuse the ugly old guy in the middle, but here's the first pic
Thanks so much for all the kind words, girls are doing the breakfast thing, then some serious play time!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amen Dave ...AMEN
Probably everyone else is like me, been looking forward to your daily updates. This one is the BEST so far. :D What beautiful little Grand Daughters you have there, Dave. I don't know who looks happier in that picture, you or them. :)
Enjoy them now because they grow up so fast. Amazing how such little bodies can consume so much food, isn't it. :D

Not that it matters in the least, but not too long ago you were telling us about pulling up stakes in Madison and heading down to Texas outside the Houston area as I recall? Is this little life hiccup going to defer that move, or are you still hoping to get to warmer country before the snow flies again? Those little girls would look great in some new cowgirl boots!!

I'd say for now I have no idea what I'll be doing!!!! The legal issues will began Monday but with two states involved who knows how long that could take? I really want them as far away from their mother as possible but everyone keeps telling me to work the system to the max for the girls benefit... My attorney keeps assuring me that the most she could possibly hope for is SUPERVISED occasional visitation under the control of a state DSS employee....I told him I'd be ok with that---as long as it's AFTER she gets done serving a looooooong stretch in a suitable "institution" that gives mothers who neglect/abuse childern all the attention they so justly deserve!!!!!!;)
I'm just wondering how long it's going to be before Grandpa has some helpers out in the shop (Grandma might have something to say about it though). Dave ya done good....enjoy every minute with them.
dave i am so happy to hear the great news that the girls are finally safe. also i happen to like the way the guy in the middle looks between those beautiful girls.
Great family picture Dave. Those two little ones will be much better for it with Gramps handling the raising. Your daily schedule will no longer be the same.
Our prayers are with Lexi and your family, as for the person responsible..... well there are no words.
Dave,I don't know Mrs Daves' name but heck that photo of you and your two little angels is so heart warming,God Bless you all and may he watch over you all as you both take this added responsiblity of parenthood again. My prayers will continue for each and everybody in your home filled with love.
Cheers Whip.
There's nothing better than a happy ending but that picture comes awfully close. Guess I need to add another prayer to my prayer list and that's the "prayer of thanks to our Lord and Savior" - - thru him all things are possible.
:)What a sweet picture! God Bless you all....:)
Oh Dave - This is so fantastic! I'm on my second Kleenex.. This is an exciting chapter and of course you and the misses will have to keep us updated with news and pictures. All your Club Hot Rod friends are un-official "uncles" and of course there's "Aunt Barb" who will want to see a picture or two from time to time as well.
My heart is so full of joy as I see these precious little ones. As has been said numerous times throughout this thread, God certainly has answered the prayers and He is to be praised and thanked for keeping His hand on those little ones until He sent you to rescue them.
Give them lots of love from "Uncle Glenn"
would love to be the unofficial aunt to those beautifull girls. i am only a aunt to one child. a nephew who can be a demon at times. :)
Dave I just got back from vacation and saw this post. I so sorry to hear what you and your family are going through. I'm glad you guys are working towards protecting the kids. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Steve..
Great to hear all is good Mr.Dave... And Yes Prayers are very powerful.. I will say one tonight, to say thanks..
I just finished reading all of the postings, I now have tears too. I'm so happy those girls are safe with you now. It just breaks my heart to think they should worry about food! I love the picture you posted of them. I hope you guys spoil them rotten! I'm sure your doggie will be bringing smile to their faces too. Pets are great part of the healing process too. Keep us updated Dave.
You have two beautiful little girls there, Dave. I am so glad that this has worked to their benefit so far; you and your Missus are special folks in my estimation. You all will be in my thoughts, and hoping for not too much of a "rasslin'" match over all of this, and that hose babies stay where they are safe and loved. Please keep us all up to date.
I am like many others here: each time I read this post, I get all misty eyed, for two reasons. First, no child deserves to be mistreated that way and that breaks my heart, and second, there are good people who will take up their cause without reservation, and that fills my heart with warmth. I'd do the same for my babies, or any others I could help, as I am sure most of us would.
Dave. We are so glad to hear that things are turning around for the good. I know how these things take their toll on the grandparents, as we are watching our daughter and granddaughter struggling as our ex son in law has walked away from the marriage. It just tears at the heart! So, hug those babies up as they need their grandparents more than ever now. Our prayers go out to you, your wife, and those precious grandchildren. Take care, as grandpa is needed more than ever now!
Thanks again for all the prayers, encouragement, and kind comments!!!! Girls are sleeping in this morning, they are showing signs of starting to relax a bit.
I've noticed little signs of how things must have been for them. Lisha spilled some Cheerios on the floor yesterday and turned around with a look of sheer terror on her face, obviously expecting punishment----instead Pepper (my dog) trotted over and gathered up the spilled Cheerios off the floor. Lots of other little things that both girls have shown just how lousy their lives must have been. Today, both girls and their Dad are sleeping in and Grandma went to do some early AM shopping---think I've peeked in to look at them every 15 minutes since 6AM just to make sure they're ok!!!!!:LOL::LOL: My friends keep telling me how spoiled my puppy is, just wait til they see how much 'Ol Grandpa spoils these two girls!!!!:3dSMILE::3dSMILE::3dSMILE:
Today will be relaxing day for all of us, I think at this point one more day of just kickin' back and becoming more "at home" with their new surroundings is in order to help them settle in. I wish it could all happen right now, but I know it's going to take a lot of time and attention to get these two to give up all their fear and once again be able to trust that the poeple caring for them are not going to abuse or neglect them.... My very good friend and attorney stopped by yesterday to briefly let us know what all he would be needing from us, Dad has an appointment first thing Tuesday morning with him to sign the necessary papers so that Phil (my attorney) can start obtaining copies of all the DSS and Police reports from the Iowa agencies involved in the case. Phil also told us that he had a letter from the girl's mother's attorney stating that after reading some of the reports about his "client" and the case he would be withdrawing from representing her!!!! Chance she will realize how things are stacked against her and voluntarily surrender complete custody......Man, would that make everyone here just flat giggly!!!!!!!
Sounds like things are moving in the right direction, Dave. Kids are tough little people and it is amazing how they can bounce back from terrible things. With the good environment and love you are all providing they will continue to improve every day.
BTW, we liked you a lot before this, but have to say you moved way up the respect ladder for your handling of this situation. You did good, bud. :)
Don
Good Morning, Dave, and thanks for the update, a great way to start my day. However, I need to correct myself on a comment that I made the other day. I called it a "Happy Ending" and I should have called it a "Happy Beginning". It was actually the END of a horrible way of life for those babies and the BEGINNING of a new a LOVING LIFE that they are experiencing now. God Bless You All, Grandpa !
One more note for today, this one about the caliber of folks who frequent CHR-----TRJohn57 (Terry) was just here---brought some clothes that his grandkids had outgrown, and a gift card to buy whatever the girls may need or want to make their life better.... Next time someone sez we're just a bunch of geezers who spend all our time and money on our cars you can tell them they've obviously been hangin' out on the wrong Hot Roddin' site!!!!
Thanks much for the visit and the gifts for the girls Terry!!!! It certainly wasn't necessary, but absolutely is appreciated!!!!!!
Quality people hangin' out on a quality site......
dave i am so happy to hear that things are going in the right direction for your family. i so wish that i lived closer to you guys so i could help out. hopefully like you said that thing that gave birth to the girls will just give up. that was a wonderfull thing that terry did. if you would like maybe you could set up a paypal account for the girls so we could all chip in what we can. it would certainly make me feel great to contribute.
I'll second that Barb, or gift cards we could send, PM me with anything I can do to help! I was telling my wife about it today, and got all choked up! We're glad the girls have a good home with you, and will pray that the legal process goes smoothly for you guys!
Hey, Dave...we're planning two trips with the '52 in the next month and a half or so; one to St. Paul and one to Milwaukee. Perhaps we can take a couple hundred mile "scenic loop" on one of the passes and route through the Sioux Falls area. Would love to get a chance to meet you in person and meet those adorable little girls...mebbe take you all out for an ice cream. Will keep in touch as we get closer to see what your schedule's like...
I certainly do appreciate the good thoughts, folks. If you would like to send the girls a "Get Well" or "Welcome Home" card, I'd sure be Happy to supply a mailing address for them....but probably best sent in a PM or Email rather then just posting it here!!!! I'm not much on PayPal or other such online money deals, had a very expensive lesson with Pay Pal and a less then honest customer one time.......
Hope lexi is doing well, I just dont Know what I would do in your position. I would hope to be able to use my sence of judgement.
It was very nice to meet with you Dave. I know this is only the beginning to a long journey yet to come. Grandparents are the king of the crop. We seem to fight for what's right. Good luck to you, the misses, your son and the two little angels. Like John Lennon said, " There's nothing you can do that can't be done".
