Priced a 2010 Honda Goldwing 1800

The wife and I were talking about getting a bike to ride.
I told her if I ride on the street I want a Honda and she agreed with me.
There is a Honda dealer next to the body shop I had our Suburban in to be fixed after my fender bender last week. So we stopped in and checked them out, they were some good folfs in there.
They only come in about 4 colors which I did not know.
Yellow, black white and red is what I was told.
Anyway there are 4 differant stages of a Honda Goldwing.
The first one is real basic, anyway I would want the 3 option.
The 4th has airbags and anti lock brakes, HE! HE! HE!
Anyway they said the would throw in armrest for my wife in the back.
Plus two helmets with the built in intercoms to talk to each other and some fog lights. How much you say??? Just over 27,000!!!!
They told me they would finance me at 5% I told them to let me see if my credit union could do any better and I would talk to them monday.
My credit union did 4.5% before for me I wonder if they still will.
I think my wife is having second thoughts on the 30,000 doller motor bike.

That's not a bad price with all of the other things. However as stated I would get one a couple years old, there are many out there with LOTS of add-ons. GW's run forever. I bought mine new in 2002 and it still looks brand new and runs perfectly.

Although, in my opinion I would save my money on the level three unless you just wanted the ABS. Ok so you get a built in nav system, much cheaper to get a garmin and plug it in. You can get the level 1 for about 20K then add what you want. But that's just me and my thoughts. Never ridden an ABS bike, but I hear they are pretty nice.

gassersrule I have got lots of freinds that have Harleys and they are allways
beaking down and having to be towe'd in home from far off places.
I had some freinds that are all in Specail Forces and take long bike rides around Florida and they all kept breaking down. A few years ago they all started buying Honda's because a Head Harley Mech told them that Harley's are just not made for that much road time and they would be happier on Honda's. Now they are all very happy with almost no problems at all. This will be for me and my wife to cruz or putt around on and I want a nice comfertable ride with no problems or the wife won't want to go.
Hey Mr. Chips thanks for the advise the stage 3 like I want does not have ABS brakes or the air bags. I want to get everything that I like up front so I don't have to search for it later and it looks good, not like a add on. The only other thing that I would want is their built in CB so I could talk to all my trucker freinds since I've been a trucker for about 30 years.

It makes you wonder how you could buy a couple cars for the same price as a two wheel, two cylinder, two passenger vehicle!!!

Just in weight alone that's ten times the materials! What is so much harder about making bikes. (The answer is "Nothing".)

Hotrodpaint; I beleive that the Honda Goldwing 1800 is 6 cylinders.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

I have a project I have been working on for years and I am still not finished with because of health issues. I am just looking for some fun time when I am feeling good
enough to take a ride. Though I have a super sharp 07 Mustang GT thats all decked out
its a five speed and just kills my bad knees to get in and out plus all the shifting.
It's only got 7,000 miles on it now, but the wife drives it once in a while to help keep it running. Kurt

I like all things two wheels, have for many many years. I don't care what brand someone rides as long as they are happy with it. I will certainly NEVER get into a discussion over which bike is best. The best bike on the market in my opinion is the one that makes you happy. I can't count the number of motorcycles I have had over the years, everything from dirt, to sport, cruiser, tour, sport tour......you name it. Each have their degree of fun. However if you want a bike that handles like a sport bike, has the comfort of your easy chair, accelrates like a rocket and keeps momma grinnin while she reads her book, then you will not find a better fit than the wing hands down. The only twothat I cannot compare it to are the BMW KLT1200 and the new Victory Tourer. I have heard the BMW is top heavy as well. Anyway, if you get a wing and you plan on logging some miles, the wing is it. It really takes no time at all to forget it is as big as it is.
Vara4, I am pretty sure that level three wings are ABS, Level four has airbags. But you may be able to get a 3 without ABS. Check with Honda Directline in FL, great prices. Also get as much as you can afford, I just could not see paying 500.00 for a CB radio and Nav was not an option when I bought mine. I can see where Nav would be good, but I am fine with taking the one out of the car and using it. You can get the setup so that you can hear the GPS through your helmet also. And if it breaks it is way cheaper to repair. But that's me.....LOL Enjoy whatever you get.

Honda is just trying to recover their cost in the Goldwing "frame recall" a few years back. They are still "The Best" touring bike IMO.

Many things to consider in the purchase of any big ticket motorcycle.
1) purchase price less trade in, or resale value, plus service costs are the true cost of ownership.
2) access to serviceing dealerships "on the road" cannot be overstated if your going to be traveling interstate.
3) replacement parts program
4) technical service backup to the dealer from the manufacturer is important to get you back on the road.

Honda, Kawasaki are very good (as are most Japanese brands) on the above.

Victory fails in all above areas.


As a motorcycle rider, and a service manager in a motorcycle dealership, I will tell you that you cannot compare a motorcycle to a car, in cost of transporation. The car will win everytime. You might convince your wife that it's a good investment. But a $200+ rear tire last's only 3 to 5000 miles on a performance bike and some under 30 yer old riders pay over $3000 per year to insure a $10K bike.

It's all about the wind in your hair and bugs in your teeth. Motorcycles are the most fun you can have "with your pants on". The cost to have fun is not always cheap. Just like any racer will tell you "you always want to go faster/quicker".

I know it's nice to get new, but have you checked CraigsList?? Here's one in your area, '06 and 9200 miles, which I would think is pretty low?? $13500 asking price is 1/2 your new cost??

guess id rather spend my money in my home country. oh well have fun on whatever you decide to ride. its all fun anyway
