Now that we are confused I'll hijack this thread a bit - what kind of trouble am I going to run into if I change out the mother board and CPU** of my current home built desk top? How old is your computer? It might be less expensive to replace the computer.

The computer is a middle of the road CPU and mobo and home built, with a high end case, power supply and hard drive and is just a year old. The replacement micro ATX mobo and CPU at Newegg is in the $100 to $150 range plus a few hours of my time. I'm most concerned with what it will do to the XP/docs files, but of course can (will) save most files on a Cd, DVD or my exterior hard drive which is really a bit small.
