In this day and age, you don't have to be in the wrong place. The wrong place and wrong people will come to you. There was a time when home invasions were rarely heard of, today it has become more frequent, even in the best of neighborhoods.:(
One of the reasons the police like to use pump riot guns is for the recognition they get when they load a round into the chamber, crowds tend to move aside and back off. It's a sound thing.:LOL:
I was going to say the same earlier, its seems today there are to many thinking they can just take what they want including interring your house.... And if your looking for the fear factor, nothing like loading a round into a AK 47 " pistol grip" with a 50 round mag....LOLQuote:

BTW--The Supreme Court decision only said that a total BAN was wrong, and this applied to the District of Columbia only.... In Justice Scalia opinion that he wrote representing the majority of the justice he states cleary that a total ban is wrong, but that regulations concerning concealed weapons are still constitutional.... Hardly a total license for everyone to be able to carry a concealed weapon, State regulations still apply...
This was the first 2nd Amendment case the Supreme Court has agreed to hear in the last 70 years, don't expect more to be heard anytime soon.... Not quite the total victory some would seem to think it is... Reading through some of the posts on here, it would appear that most do not realize the limited scope of the Supreme Court ruling..... Hardly a total abolishment of gun control regulations, might not want to start carrying that full automatic anything down a public street just yet!!!!!
This thread has been getting stupid for a long time. Just because someone decides to carry a gun does not mean;they are looking for a fight, they are tooscared to shoot if needed, they frequent bad places just because they feel empowered, or that they are paranoid. The people who take the time to get the training are not the people you need to worry about. As all studies have shown the states who have carry laws have seen a reduction in crime.
As for the police and military being against carry law's, guess who pushed me to get mine, a former special forces current police sgt. His chief pushed hard for the law to be passed. Why? Because the police cannot be everywhere to protect everyone, and a law abiding citizen is just that.
The second amendment ruling did nothing to change the way things for most of us right now. It did change for places like D.C. where they have one of the highest crime rates, and weren't allowed to own guns.
Willowbilly,if you ever do have a gun beside your bed I hope you will also have a good flashlight to identify a threat before shooting. Did I learn that in training no it's just common sense.

Wondering if you could site some of these studies???... Everybody keeps referring to them I'd like to see what the actual statistics are and who did the study.... As we all know, statistics can be manipulated to say most anything, usually depends on who has commissioned the research......Quote:

The disagreement I have with most of your posts on this topic lies in the fact that they seem to embrace the "wild west" scenario. That is, if people start carrying concealed weapons, the country will erupt in a new OK Corral shootout pretty much every weekend. People will be out looking for trouble.
The fact, at least so far, is that concealed carry has been in effect in many states for quite a few years, and the "wild west" just hasn't happened. Also, the folks who go to the trouble and expense to obtain a CCW permit typically aren't the rabble rousers that the mayors of DC and Chicago think we are.
That being said, I respect your opinion, but I'd rather have one and not need it than need one and not have it.

I personally favor "open carry" over "concealed carry". I prefer to know, rather than be surprised. And I truly do not like surprises when I am unprepared for them.:LOL: :LOL:
I want to reply one more time, then I'm done. Where I live, you can't just go down a get a CCW. You have to have and prove their may be a reason you could be a target for violence. The only reason my wife and I have one is because she owns a jewelry store. At times I will have hundreds of thousand of dollars worth of diamonds on me from the jewelry district in L.A. or cash going to the bank for deposits. We buy gold bullion for investors, pounds of it, we need immediate protection. So to think you can go s
down to the sheriffs office and get a CCW license without bank deposit proof and tax statements and letters from surrounding business and a thorough back round check and schooling and.....kinda see what it takes?

Talk about irony, In Connecticut, the only pistol permit you can get get is for concealed. There is no permit available to the regular citizen for "open carry". And "concealed" means concealed!!! Our NRA instructor drilled that into our heads. The gun must be concealed at all times or you are subject to arrest for breach of peace.Quote:

In California and maybe every state, it's a felony (for the gun owner)if a minor finds a gun and hurts themselves or someone else. If your guys are locked up this negates liability of the gun owner. Common sense and safe practice at home is always a good idea. As for being jumpy at home, nobody should be coming in the locked doors in the middle of the night, unless they are up to no good. Dogs are the early warning detection system! A good verbal warning is the next, guns and shooting are absolutely a last resort.:eek:Quote:
