J. Robinson, I know I can’t take it to Chicago, and my home state is Ohio, I haven’t checked but I don’t think you can go there either.
Thanks for that information; I don’t see what’s wrong if you are cleared in one state you should be ok in the other states that allow gun permits.

My wife and I both have concealed weapons permits. I rarely leave home without being armed. Honestly, the responsibility of having a concealed weapon has calmed me, I am more forgiving of other peoples stupidity, because I know what can happen.
We have to renew ours every 2 years, the classes are more about what your response to a police interrogation should be to keep you out of jail. Then we re qualify each weapon on your permit. I carry 3, a 45 cal, titanium 38, 10MM. My wife carries a 9MM.
It's ugly out there.

Now I have very little experience with confrontation but I do think the sound of a pump shotgun chambering a round should turn anyone with a lick of sense (but that may not apply). I find this discussion interesting giving the different opinions. In Canada, the laws have tightened the acquisition of guns to the general public, but the criminal element seems to get what they need whether the laws are in place or not. Certain parts of the law do make sense, while other parts, most certainly do not. Here, your guns are to be registered, mainly, in the event of some kind of wrong doing, (whether it's caused by you or someone else) the police have some kind of an idea what their up against. That's the worst case senario. We also have the certificates (licenses) that allow you to keep, and use, within the law, the various guns you own. I have a Possision Only certificate. With it, I have my 303 rifle that I use from time to time, but, (here's the rub) I can't go and get a 22 rifle right now, because I don't have the required Acquisition Certficate. Nothing stopping me from going through the training course and getting it, just kind of PO's me that I would have to. I can have my 303, but not the 22. Kind of like 'you can drive a 18 wheeler, but not a soapbox car'. Just one example of the stupid element of our laws, and in a recent news release, " they have no intension of making it any easier to get a gun." Hopefully, they don't plan on making it any harder. What's the answer? I don't claim to know, but there has to be some sort of middle ground that will work for the majority. Most laws don't work in the case of criminals, maybe it's just me, but they don't seem to follow any of the rules set out. The average person has enough sense to know right from wrong, but the law makers still have to do their thing to justify (ha ha, now that's funny) pay and pensions!! I don’t want to give the wrong impression where I live I like it much better then in the city. When I walk through the woods I have it with me for the four-legged critters, I have met up with some angry dogs they will chase the deer until they surround one and then they go in for the kill. Half dozen dogs were coming at me but when they saw the 9MM they stopped I didn’t even have to fire it, I guess they know the difference also. When I hear a loud explosion and the next day I see a house with a big hole in the center that was being used as a lab. You need to be aware of what’s going on they blow up Motels in the City also, and even vans, the country is not like it use to be where you could leave the doors unlocked. Maybe you can where you live. In thirteen years the only thing I had to shoot was a sick woodchuck that was right by our door, I hated to do that but I didn’t have any other option.Quote:

Yeah, I only slept with it during that one period and I would have probably pooped myself if I actually had to brandish it.
I also help the humane shelter. I just brought home an abandoned cat yesterday. Roaming rogue tomcats don't set well here, they beat up our outside cats and cause more problems than they are worth. I have live traps too but I wouldn't burden the HS with a feral tom. They, are after all cats, not little people.
I have also fed stray dogs and found them homes but there are situations where I would drop a dog in a heartbeat, like if one is chasing livestock or showing aggressive behavior. When I lived in Alaska we had 2 kids killed in our neighborhood one year by dogs, separate circumstances.
Sorry to get off track, I am a gun owner and intend to stay so. The background check is a pain tho. I am squeaky clean and mine always (well twice in 4 years) bounce for some reason. I have to come back and the last time I waited 10 days and it still wasn't back, but after 3 they can go ahead and sell you the gun.

Speaking of pump shotguns, I just saw a gadget on TV the other day that is made to attach to the side of your bed and becomes a gunrack. It holds a rifle or shotgun laying parallel with the mattress and box spring. All you have to do is reach down and there is your gun, ready to use. :LOL: :LOL: It said you can add a second rack to the other side of the bed so the little lady can have one too. :LOL: :LOL:

Things I like about it are that while it is essentially an air gun, it has S&W quality and it's a big mean looking rascal and should scare the britches off of anybody who has it pointed at them.
