I had to kill in self defense once when I was 15. I was cleaning some ducks and a rabid skunk charged me. I shot from the hip with my 97 Winchester and blew him in half about 10 feet away.
I have 2 pistols but the thought that I would ever need to use one on another human never crossed my mind. If I thought that was a possibility I would move.
I refuse to live where I have to lock my door or take the keys out of my truck so shooting someone isn't a concern.
I inherited some interesting (and valuable) antique guns from my grandfather, including a Colt 38-40 (38 caliber, 40 grains of black powder) military revolver and a 30-40 Krag-Jurgensen Spanish American war rifle. Both are pre-1900. I fire both of them occasionally and really enjoy owning and showing them off. Anybody trying to take them away from me would put both of us in an interesting (and noisy) situation.
This morning I watched some outraged "outlaw all guns" pain-in-the-tail telling the world that anybody can walk into a gun show and buy a handgun without undergoing any background check at all.
BULL COOKIES! I have bought only one gun at a show (a new stainless 44 caliber revolver). I then had to wait three weeks while they made sure I was a really nice boy. Then I had to drive about 40 miles to a dealer to pick it up. I don't mind. I'm glad that they take those precautions.
You know ..... I'd bet that most of us who enjoy this website could, using some common hand tools, go into his/her shop and make a crude firearm capable of shooting the hell out of somebody. With a lathe and a mill they could probably crank out a very presentable one.
I,too am happy that our noble Supreme Court finally did something right.

I never owned a handgun until I moved to the country, I thought I was moving to Mayberry but I was informed it was more like pork chop hill. That was one person’s opinion but with the meth labs going up anywhere and everywhere people who use that stuff have to have money and they will get it anyway they can.
If you have some deterrent you may or may not have to use it but if the case comes up whether it is you or the bad guy, it has to be the bad guy.

I like old everything. I still love the old A3-03 Springfield, shot many deer and coyotes with one.Always wanted a Garand but now what I want is a buffalo gun, like a Sharps or highwall replica.
Oh, and yes you can go to most gun shows and buy a pistol and carry it home. There are a lot of gun enthusiests packing their trading stock around those places. My brother is an antique gun dealer and does his best trading on the front steps at some shows. Only licensed dealers are required to follow the cool off, although that is changing too so I may not be up to date on the latest legislation.
First I’m not a gun toting person, it’s common sense if someone is coming in my home in the middle of the night I know they are up to no good. South Dakota is not like the South side of Chicago, I did live there, I also lived in the murder capital of the world Gary, Indiana. I did like you said you would do I moved out. Most crimes occur within a short distance of the area where the criminal lives, from what I’ve seen, and read. The criminal wants an easy target they do not want too come in a house where there is a gun.
I didn’t get my weapon at a show, and I did all I was suppose to do to make it legal, I don’t need a dozen, one is good for me. I did train when I was in the Army with a 45 so I can handle a weapon.

I've owned a couple of 30/40 Krags. Probably my favorite rifle of all time. As far as home protection, I don't think anything compares to a 12 ga. shotgun. Every criminal on the planet knows the sound of a round being ratcheted into the chamber on a pump. :eek:Quote:

I'm glad to see the Supreme Court finally did something I can agree with:) , especially after the stupid decision they handed down yesterday that child rapists cannot be executed:mad: . At least I get to keep my guns for the forseeable future...
Over the last several years, Australia and England both outlawed guns. In both instances crime increased, especially the previously rare instance of home invasion!:eek: Criminals love it when they know their potential victims are unarmed...
My wife and I both enjoy going to the local shooting range occasionally and we each have several guns. We also both have concealed carry permits and rarely leave the house unarmed at night or if we know we will be out until nightfall. Could I defend myself with deadly force? I don't know, but if someone was attacking my wife or my son, I believe I could send them to Hell without a second thought. Hopefully, I will never have to find out. Unfortunately, as drug usage increases and the economy declines the crime rate will rise everywhere...:( It doesn't hurt to be prepared.
Ford2custom - You would need to verify this to be certain, but I believe your Indiana weapons permit is recognized in most of the states around you except in some metro areas (like Chicago). It is also good in Tenn, VA, NC, GA, AL, and FL. South Carolina does not recognize any out of state permits.
