For hunting in North America, I am partial to the 30.06. I have a Springfield Model 1903 that was customized by my Dad back in the 60's. I added a Redfield 3x9 scope and got a beautiful Buck out in Arizona a few years ago. Lot's of folks like the .270 over 30.06 for flatter long shots. But I feel the .06 will shoot long with a lighter grain bullet for Antelope. Ammo is always readily available anywhere!
I have a Marlin 30.30 I keep at my Cousin's home in Alabama for Deer. It's great for a scope because it side ejects. Since the 30.30 flat nose bullet is no good for distance, it's perfect in the dense forest down there as most hunting is done from blinds or tree stands at less that 50 yards distance.
Scooter, good pick on the M-60. That one was many years ago.
