The low E.T will be your easy part . It's the streetable road trip part that will take some work

it will not i have a customer that runs a 427 and runs a all steel car about # 3400 runs 11 and you can drive it all over but runs a 456 gears i would not be to quick to run the 4.56 gear with the bigger engine 454+ you will not need the gear but if you build the smaller big block run big port heads with a big cam and low cr then you will need the gear to get you out

Scooter,if you stick with the 496 4-speed an 11 sec. will be no problem.
Keep in mind with the 496 you have an extra 1/4 inch of stroke to get the car to move.

Make sure you have a real strong 4 speed . If not you will turn it into dust .

Yup... maybe not as short a gear if he's at only 2700 lbs...

But I drive it 30 miles each way to the track every weekend
When it comes time maybe next year or so, I'm thinking of going the 496 route with a friendlier gear for the highway...
Scooter... it's all about compromises... It's hard to get it all. The fact your car is light helps but if you want to run a tall gear you need the tq of big cubes to do it... maybe you can get away with a 4.11

4 speed 4:11 at 70 mph=== WAAAA like i said its not going to be an all out track car, we just lost our race track to the f-ing beurocrats, so i need to drive 300+ miles to the closest race track

I think you should build another SB Chevy car . I know you like the S/J Engines . How about a 327 60-over 336 build ?

i knew it, because ive been wanting to build a gasser forever, and to me nothing says gasser better then a tunnel rammed bbc 4 speed. so thats what i am after. i would be happy with 12.20's 12.40's as i said this is not gonna be an all out strip car. i am building it to drive and race so if it has to be a little unfriendly thats ok. but i should be able to do that with a 427 454 468 496 whatever and 373's like i said i am not dead set on it absoultley having to run 11's it would just be nice.

well i am not against having to swap gears out either
so erik how about a nice 427 or 468 or 496 that will run good times with 4:11's and be streetable with 373's ?

Try to keep the lift at or under .675, 108 L/S.
