What if you simply duplicated the bracket you made, shorten the two tube spacers by the thickness of the metal, and mount one against the block, the second as it's mounted now, and add another spacer for the adjustment bolt? You'd effectively box the mount, eliminating any concern for bending, I would think. Might look kind of trick, too?
