This may help others hanging doors Willys, the original Willys hinges are £400 a set so quite spendy, an alternative I found is the Speedway budget hinges which are available in steel or polished stainless but are slightly lighter duty, built my coupe and the truck with these hinges but I noticed the hinges flex which allows the door to drop ever so slightly which is slightly annoying !!! Anyway I found a solution

My fix was to double up the thickness which is not a problem as the original willys hinge is thicker anyway.
The hinges tend to flex by the hinge point shown in the pic below

Next I cut a piece of 3/16 stainless flat plate and tig welded it to the existing hinge flap, a bit of blending and fettling and it was done.

I only strengthened the flap that fits to the door as the body side has inherent strength due to the shape, bolted them back on and got zero flex

Well a bit of an update, been poncing about with the crap that loosely resembles the doors !!! these are probably the worst mouldings i've ever come across, there is no way they would ever have fitted the cab, they resemble willys but are so far out of shape its soul destroying, anyway after a few weeks of adding bits here there and everywhere and moving sections of the door around they finally fit pretty well, you can see where parts have been added. The gaps are set roughly and require final sanding but are basically there.

Heres a short video of the doors working

Hell, that is amazing the amount of extra work you had to put into those doors. They sound just like steel doors now closing and once paint all the same colour, will look excellent.
I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Yes mate they were pretty awful fitwise, makes you wonder how they cocked up the mold so much, yeah they shut nicely now and once the various parts are back on should sound nice.

Great job on the door! It definitely looks like you've redone every aspect of that shell! Nice to see you back on here again!

I'm a bit behind with posting updates but had a bit of free time today so here ya go.

I missed this job out ages ago so its catch up time, the window gap was massive so the gap was closed up by adding glass and then trimming to suit.

Next i added a return to screw window fuzzys to, I used 3/4" aluminium angle and slit the ends and curved to match the shape, then the slits were welded up. They are bonded to the underside with PU adhesieve

The nasty pressed steel alternator pulley was bugging me so made an aluminium one to match the other pulleys.

The nut was pretty nasty to and would rust before anything so a nice brass one was spun up, while i was there I addressed the water pump spigot, they always seem to go rusty so made a cover in brass, didnt have one big piece so made it in 2 bits out of scrap from the bin.

Bit of a small update, I finished a job ive been meaning to do for ages, Because I didnt want to cut the firewall back too much I had to notch the front for the radiator, just 2 small notches, I had left them but it bugged me so got the glass & resin out and blended & fettled the notches to look a bit more in keeping with the rest.

    AS IT WAS

It is all these little details that you go to the trouble of improving that makes your builds so damn awesome Steve. Now if you were building a car for somebody else, they may look at the bottom price and say," F..K, How the hell do you justify charging that". Yet these little job you have just shown us would of taken a few hours of work and as the saying goes, nothing is for free.
