Because they stretch & fail....

Jerry asked the same question I was about too, although I think it is maybe because the distributor is at the wrong end of the engine ? LOL.
can you put the idler on the other side???? it would also help with the pull of the belt by the rotation of the crank---would help garud against the socalled ratcheting which leads to premature belt failure----and if you could put idler on outside forcing belt inwards would help with the WRAP with more teeth in contact-------
and from an old time fuel dragster/funnycar guy-----we always put the big pulley on the bottom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe Jerry, I tried it but the belt fouls the top hose, however tomorrow i'm gonna try it again with the idler pulley pushing the belt inwards.
I'm starting off underdriven at 5lbs boost to get it all bedded in, then I can play around with pulleys and boost :D
.
I thought you were talking about the valve cover bolts
What a great build thread, started reading, and couldn't stop! Love the

Very nice, stinks about the belt. It'll be awesome to hear this monster run!
