    NHRA rules

Hey gang. I'm getting ready to order some roll bar tubing for the 'maro...anybody have a new rule book handy to see what the spec for moly tubing 8 point roll bar for a 10.90 car is? Think it used to be 1 1/2" X .083 wall......???????

    Thanks

Found the spec on a google search that sez 1 5/8 x .083, but I thought that had changed for moly??????

The majority of the rules are there for a reason, unfortunately many times the reason was injury or death. If NHRA wants 1 5/8" .083 wall tubing, sounds good to me..... I've lost way too many friends to freak racing incidents over the years to question their logic, or yearn for the "good old days" when safety was for sissies.....

at the risk of pissing alot of people off and sounding morbid, thats just the risk of racing. i realize that while my car is no speed-demon i could eat it at anytime but the fun factor outweights that for me. this year event hough i didnt get to race, my fellow tech-y's talked me into a 5 point harness so i got one. yeah i was using an old lap belt can ya belive it

Risks are inherent with racing... No reason to compound them by not using the appropriate safety equipment that has been proven to lessen or in some cases totally prevent injury. I've taken my share of nasty rides and because of that the one place on the car I will never cut corners is on safety equipment.... There is absolutely nothing kewl or macho about ignoring safety rules.... Maybe it's just an old man thing, but I've buried way too many of my friends that were killed by racing incidents that if they had the equipment and rules then that they do now, the majority of them would still be alive.... When the NHRA is up there this year Scooter, ask some of the Pro and Sportsman drivers about safety equipment.....especially John Force!!!! Walking with a limp is a heck of a lot better then being dead......

Top Fuel-Goggles now prohibited. Must wear full face helmet with shield. SFI 31.2A, Snell SA2000 or SA2005. Must use skirted helmet with built-in SFI 3.3 sock or separate SFI 3.3 head sock if helmet is not skirted. Neck collar not required with skirted helmet or separate head sock. (Secondary function of neck collar was to prevent fire from going past the neck and up into the helmet. That function is provided by the head sock now. Driver can elect to use a neck collar with the sock/skirt if he/she desires) Must use SFI 38.1 HANS device.
