I've always thought Dextron III, but we'll see what the experts say.

Dexron fluids were designed for GM transmissions. You can put just about anything in a TH350, including hydraulic oil, but Dexron is the best choice.

I have a half a dozen of the 350's in the back. I had to go and out all of the dipsticks and remind myself what GM wanted to run back then. Dexron was is what they all say. I and everybody else here do not remember the last time we saw it on the shelf. I have personally felt the need to run Type "F" for it's friction modifiers so the clutch packs would be consistant upon shifting and bands would last a bit longer. Type "F" was a buggar to get for a while, Now I can find it everywhere here.Last edited by nitrowarrior; 05-17-2007 at 02:14 PM.
What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?

I use AMSOIL's Super Shift Racing Fluid in my TH350. It's a synthetic Type-F fluid, but is recommended for all high performance / racing transmissions.

That surprises me. I bet you can't simply dump F on top of Dextron. You probably have to start off with it dry?

I guess that's one way to make a Chevy tranny better, put FORD parts in it. lol. (I couldn't pass that one up)Last edited by Itoldyouso; 05-21-2007 at 09:27 AM.

The fundamental difference between Dexron and Type F is the friction modifier additive for the clutches. GM preferred(s) a smoother shift than Ford. Some folks like a firmer feeling shift, so F is more appropriate for that. BTW the Type F spec went out the window almost 20 years ago as supported by Ford. The name Dexron is trademarked by GM and has no letter T in it. Dexron III is generally backward compatible to previous Dexron applications.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 05-21-2007 at 09:58 AM.
