    Trans or Torque converter noise

Can anyone give me an idea of what this noise might be. First its a 700r4 rebuilt with a 2000 to 2200 torque converter rebuilt. What I'm hearing is a squeeking noise intermitantly, only after I has warmed up. Today it did not make a noise like a untill I got the rpms to 1200 in drive, once I let off the gas and the rpm dropped below 1200 the noise went away. If it is in park and I bring the rpms up the noise comes back. As I said this is not a consant noise, sometimes I will not hear it at all. When I get under the car to listen were its coming from it sound like it's coming from the torque converter. Has any of you seen or heard of this ?

The flex plate may be cracked.

Would the crack in the flex plate be obvious or will I need to remove to inspect it ?

You'll have to remove it to be sure. Sometimes it will make a cracking sound if you pry on it from the bottom. The crack will be from one of the big holes to another, not visible when everything's together. It will come out if you put a few long bolts in the trans and slip it back an inch or so, and carefully reach up and get the flywheel bolts out.
They do crack frequently for no real reason.

If you don't find it cracked, you may have to service this with a new filter. It is possible that the seal for the filter was not installed or the old one was not removed. It will airate at certain RPM's and cause a squeaking noise like a flex plate crack.
What if the "Hokey Pokey" is what it's really all about?
