Jas.....the 64 to 66 f 100 had a geometry mis match. To resolve it they put a hole in both the Z-bar attacthments at the rod you're referring to. It is for a spring to tighten up the slack on the rod. Not for tension or clutch adjustment, but to keep the silly thing in place when adjustment fell out of spec. If you don't have these holes, drill them and get the spring or one strong enough. I have owned three of these things (mid 60's f 100) and since I have had customers with the same complaint (c'mon, I can't have total hands on when thier trucks are in their driveway), I have had to resort to keeping things in place so I can drive it without finding the rod on the ground when I need to go to work or where ever. Then set the free play and travel where you're comfortable.
