That was one of our concerns too, Steve. Plus, we felt with the torque of that Olds a four bar setup would just locate the axle a little better, and be less prone to breaking.
However, being from England, you will be familiar with the Austin Healeys. My Sprite used a setup just as John was describing, the quarter eliptic spring went on the bottom and a bolt simply went through the spring hole to afix it to the rear axle mount. And on top they used a rectangular bar to keep the axle held firmly in the correct possition. It seemed to function pretty well, but the Sprite only had 50 hp stock. But even when I put the sbf in there and did a lot of smokey burnouts it still seemed to work ok.
Whatever the case, we just didn't feel comfortable with using the Posies one that way.
