John, Posies says is is ok to use the springs as the lower support arm, with just one control arm on top on each side, but we didn't like that setup. We used a four bar arrangement on Dan's rpu and then mounted the springs with a conventional perch and shackle.

Here is a picture that might explain it better.

That was one of our concerns too, Steve. Plus, we felt with the torque of that Olds a four bar setup would just locate the axle a little better, and be less prone to breaking.

However, being from England, you will be familiar with the Austin Healeys. My Sprite used a setup just as John was describing, the quarter eliptic spring went on the bottom and a bolt simply went through the spring hole to afix it to the rear axle mount. And on top they used a rectangular bar to keep the axle held firmly in the correct possition. It seemed to function pretty well, but the Sprite only had 50 hp stock. But even when I put the sbf in there and did a lot of smokey burnouts it still seemed to work ok.

Whatever the case, we just didn't feel comfortable with using the Posies one that way.
