Yeah I most likely am going to just go ahead with Craftsman. I might as well because it's got the garantee (sp) so if it breaks then big deal, go get another one. I just can't stand when I am working on something that is important on my dirt bike or something and it's a part that needs to be on so dirt doesn't get in and your tool breaks and you have to wait to go to Sears because your poor bastard ass doesn't have a vehicle and has to wait for the pops to take him.... lol yeah that poor bastard I was talking about is me.

99.9% of my tools are craftsman and in my opinion unless you work out of a shop where the snap on guy will visit you every week then craftsman is the way to go.

I "like" snap on but the cost of them is just not justifiable for the home mechanic.

Only thing i DONT like about craftsman is the fact that they use to give you a brand new ratchet when you took a broken one back and now they give you a "rebuilt" one out of the box next to the register

When did they start doing that?!

i found this out a month ago when i took back a 3/8 drive and they gave me a rebuilt one that was leaking oil out of the head while it was still in the bag!

They do? Well damn I won't do that because if I don't get new one's back then I will have to steal them. That is pretty messed up, it's like making rules for a game and changing them in the middle of it.

Your sears store has issues then. Simply tell them that you bought it new, so you should get a new one. That will stop a lot of people rather quickly.

Yup they never use to do it but thats exactly what they did when i took the ratchet back kinda shocked me also becuase thats the first time that has happened.

They have a bottom roll box at the register now full of ratchets that are rebuilt and they give out the rebuilt ones. I have to take the leaking one back when i get a chance and you better believe they will not only get a piece of my mind but i WILL be walking out with a NEW ratchet

Yeah man, I don't think they are allowed to do that. If they don't give you a new one then you better steal one man, don't let them get away with that. Either that or call Craftsman or something and tell them about it.

    What does their guarantee state?
I exchanged all my ratchets last year...i think they pulled em from a box, except the 1/4"one i got new (after some hassle) cause they didn't ahve one in the box.

Last time i exchanged one, i got a kit to rebuild mine!

Screw that, I wan't them brand new. I don't know what their guarantee states though. Let me check that out here on my cataloge and see.... Ok on the warrant Information section it says this: " If any Craftsman hand tool ever fails to give complete satisfaction, return it to Sears for free repair or replacement. This warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights, which cary from state to state."
Maybe they can then? I don't know, doesn't really say, but it says they will give you a free repair or replacement. Oh well, as long as I don't have a broke one it's all ok.

Right now I am looking in this Craftsman cataloge and I was wondering what you guy's would think about getting a huge tool set with everything verses individual sets with things like combination wrenches in cases and all? In a way I like the wrenches and all in the little cases or holders but other times I don't but it all depends. Especiall the sockets I would like in a case instead of scattered in the the tool box or what-not.
Also does anyone know a site or anything with a list of most automotive tools I would need (not including combination wrenches, sockets, screw drivers, etc) because I know one time the auto tech teacher was telling the class about all the specialty tools for brakes, etc etc and I couldn't remember them all and only got to write a little down. I know I am asking a bit of questions but I just want to look for a set in here with most of the thing's I will need.
    Thanks again.

If you have the cash, the entire set will save you $. However, you will find that many times you dont have the cash. Thats why we all spend our lives collecting tools.

Yeah I am going to try and save my money (5,000) until next summer and buy this whole set with all these automotive tools and every other tool I will need for now (some like 2000 peice or more set) and just put a little money to the side for this whenever I get some.

This is just my opinion FMX but i never was a big advocate of buying the huge tool sets if your not opening a grage business.

Reason i say that is there alot of tools in those huge sets that you really will not use very much. Personally i like to buy a ratchet set like a 132pc set and then buy what i will get alot of use out of like ratcheting wrenches, stubby ratchets,t-handle alan wrenches and such.

If you have a older car and your going to use the set for it primarily then you really dont have a whole lot of need for metrics and thats almost half the socets&wrenches in those huge sets.

I know some guys may disagree with what i just said but thats just how i look at it and how i have built my tool collection for myself.

No I agree with you.... I agree both way's actually. I know what you mean and right now that is basically how me and my dad have gotten all of our tools is buying the sockets, combinations, screw drivers, etc and then whenever we have to work on something and we don't have the part for it then we go to Sears and buy it and add on that way. Only thing I don't like is having to wait to go to Sears and all and wasting that time. I will use a lot of the tools but not a lot of the automotive tools as much, but I will still use all of them once in a while when working on the truck and thing's like that. I use a lot of metric tools for my dirt bikes and things of that sort at the moment and metric is a must for me to have, I can go without standard tools if I had to (but I won't). I will just have to see what happens, like I said, I don't have the money for it yet, I got to save up and see what goes. Anything can happen between now and later when I need them so we will just have to see, I just wanted to get some more input and info on these ahead of time.... I am just one of those people that likes to plan way ahead and make sure I don't mess up or forget nothing because every little thing stresses me out like that.

Come on man, Streets is getting old here, he can't keep up and remember everything..... even though it seems like he does. Well let me change that, it doesn't SEEM like it, he DOES, like ask Streets a question, any question at all and he know's the answer and a link to the answer and a link to where he got the link probably. hah. If he doesn't know the answer he will be sarcastic to you and then make up a story and then after he is all done he will know someone that does know. He rarely ever tells people that he know's of someone else that knows something he doesn't, but he is sarcastic a lot.... I bet if he reply's to this post here he will say something to make you laugh.
    heh.
