Buy the basic tools (sockets - 1/4, 3.8 and 1/2 up to 1 inch) - 6 point chrome, shallow and deep
SAE and Metric, since most every US car has been metric since 1980 or so.

allens, torx, 36 oz or so soft hammer, brass hammer (24oz or so)
wratcheting box end wrenches - SNAP ON ONLY sae and metric
combination wrenches sae and metric, 12 point

pliers, vise grips, needle nose pliers, snapon or equivalent stork LONG needle nose pliers

full set of straight and phillips screw drivers.
torque wrench (3/8 and 1/2 maybe..)

The rest depends on what you do or how much money you have. I have the commmon allens in 'socket' form, one brake tool from 30 years ago, cotter pin and hose 'pullers' (used in car work, rarely in bike work - the allen sockets used a LOT in bike work).

My 1/2 sockets are short chrome sae craftsman, deep mac impact metric, and generci deep impact sae. Rarely if ever have i needed the extra thin wall of a 1/2 inch chrome socket to fit someplace.

I have a thin and long 10mm snap on wrench for a specific bike i used to work on. Those types of tools you'll p ick when you start working as the need arises.

Theory is, if you need to borrow it 3 times, you need to buy it.

Nest tool i need is a cooling sytem pressure tester....have needed it way too many times in the past year!

Thanks for the info man. What do you mean by SNAP ON ONLY? Also thos pressure tests for the radiator cap, can they be used for dirt bikes and car's or are they different for cars? Also compression tools (forgot the name right now) but if the cmpression check tool for car's the same as the dirt bike or motorcycle ones? I forgot how to even do leak down tests and compression checks on a car since we only watched the teacher do it once. That is the thing I didn't like about my class is that the teacher would just explain something to you real fast and just show you how it works instead of letting you do something yourself and learning that way and I just forget it now and forgot how he did the compression checks and all. I will have to just wait for that I guess, but how often do hot rodders check their compression and all? I am not sure if it's the same with dirt bikes where you check it often or right before it's time for an engine to blow so you can make sure it's alright.

and channel locks. you'll need channel locks.

compression tester is same for all cars/bikes/boats, etc. leak doen is an additional tool..used one once or twice in 15 years. Used compression tester alot on bikes, rarely on cars.

For instance, the Jeep i just got with a 'bad motor'. Didn't hear it run till i bought it and got it home. tinny rap sound..kinds odd. pulled a valve cover on the noisy side...everything moving except the oil...the everything stopped. No need to compression test or leak down this one!

The rad tester itself is the same, but their are adapters for all the different size rads and caps.

Damn these translators suck! I can't figure out everything that Street's said because of course how some stuff in spanish is backwords and all. Anyone wan't to tell me what he meant? The ending says something about armed forces and a few other things in there about shit or something. I feel dumb for living with a greatgrandmother when I was a little kid and they spoke spanish all the time and I still don't know it. lol
