I was looking in the scrapyard for stuffs to make a power rotisserie for cleaning a 40 gallon gas tank, and my imagination didn't see the stuffs.

I did pick up 40 lb of bed frame, that's always useful towards an odd project.

Of course I was hoping for to score a motor with a gearbox for starters, no such luck.

He had several multi speed bikes, maybe I could do something with the chain and sprockets for speed reduction, and use a dryer motor maybe.

Now here's a thought for you, this guy has an old hit and miss engine gas tank strapped to it for cleaning.

Also,he had a craftsman riding mower with no deck. For $10 he let me take the starter and coil. I'm thinking maybe to get the whole mower plus a dryer motor, and mount the motor in place of the engine, and one of the rear axles can drive it.

A word of caution if you're going to do this...never never never ever put a strap through the slot in the rim where the tyre valve is.
I did.
But only once.

(Dumb eh! )

I scored a gear reduction 115V motor. I'll be tumbling this tank soon.

Some progress between classes and VFW stuff.

For a pulley, I used a deck pulley which had stripped its inner splines. I drilled it out, then used a round file to get it to a press fit. I used four bolts as spacers to get it square, and put three spot welds to the motor shaft. It turned out nearly concentric. Not bad.

I got the frame stripped down and motor mounted.

I decided the rear end is sealed with no vent, so stood the frame on its nose, using the bed frame angle iron for the base.

Because it's an open rear end, I needed to fix one axle.

To that end, I used one of the removed belt guides. One side bolted in under a conveniently located bolt, and welded the other end to the axle.

I'll post some pixels later.

Bed frame is interesting stuff to work with. Most of it seems hardened, but not uniformly so.

I have a set of TiNi DeWalt bits which are "stepped": that is they have a small starter point, then are flat like an end mill. They seem to do a decent job drilling the stuff.

Anyway, it's together and tumbling!

I spun the tank for about an hour, tumbling the MEK. There is still about 1/8" of goo on the bottom of the tank.

Next will be to drain the MEK, add diesel and chains, purge with argon and tumble clean!

Okay, I can't help it. When I see the thread title on the list my brain immediately goes to thinking; "that better be one stout mutha if it's gonna hold an M1 or something that heavy....."

Looks like photobucket now wants $ to host my pixels. Well they have been getting progressively more difficult to use anyway.

What free sites are my options?

TNSTAAFL, or some prefer the acronym TANSTAAFL.

In addition to the costs of providing you with storage space you need to read the fine print on the hosting agreement. Many of them now advise that by uploading photo's to their domain, they have the right to use any photo in any way that they want. They can sell your images to a magazine, use them for their advertising, etc, etc. It's also recommended that one back up all photos uploaded so that the host cannot hold your images for ransom should you decide to stop paying their fees. Some would then ask, "If I'm backing them up externally, why do I need the host?" There are reasons, but if you're only using the host for storage?

Well if someone here would like to post some pixels for me, I'll happily forward them.

Oh, and I have no idea what that extensive acronym portents or deciphers.

Meanwhile I think the MEK has done all it's going to. I've drained it (yuk!) And will do the diesel and chain tumble next.
