I just called them to ask..........yep, they want the pistons. We'll pull apart the old engine this weekend and see if we need to order one or more pistons to replace any that were damaged. They also balance engines there, so we will have that done at the same time, which means I will be hauling a lot of parts with me.

I just called Jegs to see what piston rings we used when we put the engine together 3 years ago (I didn't remember). They said we used Sealed Power E243K40 rings, and Sealed Power says those are chrome moly rings. They tell me they like.004 clearance per inch of bore on the top ring and .005 clearance per inch on the second ring. Do those numbers seem reasonable to you guys or should I go looser?

Good idea. They said the heads would have to be on the block to do that, so we will probably bring the engine home, assemble it, then take it back so they can fit the intake to the block. It will be a lot of driving to get all this done, but if it means getting a good machine job it will be worth it. Every time I talk to someone down here I hear more bad stuff about the machine shop I had used for years, and we have certainly had our own stories to add to the pile.
