If you’re just going to paint them I've seen people use Plastic body filler.
I don't know how they look now ... but as long as it’s not too thick, I would think it should hold pretty good... depending on the prep you do.
If you were rechroming it ,you'd want to use copper .

also heard of people sweating lead in ,with good results with paint but more time invested.
