Yea I want to get part of the floor in so I can take the body off and get the sheetmetal done. I was trying to decide how to make a roof and I found an old Vespa front fender from 1963 that matches the rear corners perfect. Gonna order a new one and cut it in half!!!
I got all my engine parts now so I can't wait to get at that also.

How did you make your drive shaft hoops? Just heat and bend or relief cuts?

Looks like some good work to me, I especially like the way you reinforce the roof opening!Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

Got a little more done today. I got the body mounts bolted on, 6 all together, I figure that should be enough (4) of them are 5/8" bolts and (2) 3/8" at the rear. I added in another frame cross brace and then mounted a couple triangulated braces just behind the tranny, hopefully that will be stiff enough.
Then I made a couple of seats that I'm gonna try to convince a friend to cover like my chopper seat he did for me. Put in two rails and just screwed them in with self drives for now. I think I might want to mount them on sliders but I have to see if I can find some.
Got going on the floor and the start of the driveshaft tunnel, found that very time consuming and I want to try to get my Tig welder going for the rest of it. I want to get some practice in before I go and try to make a fuel tank.
As well I got my steering column mounted.
Now some questions. I have to mount my gas pedal and a park brake some where, is there anything else you guys can think of that I might be missing before I start to fill in the floor. Also when you mount the floor do you weld the whole thing in or do you bolt it down. I'll have to make an access door for my master cylinder and a battery box I'm thinking behind the passenger seat. Any help appreciated.
Thanks,

Started my gas tank today, the metal brake I bought was a P.O.S. so I got a little creative with a big piece of angle iron, some flat bar and a big hammer!! I bent the center main section out of one big piece to cut down on welding and then added one of the end caps. I got it tacked together with the Mig but I want to practice with my Tig and then seal it all up. I figure I'll cut out the holes for the filler neck and sending unit then clean it out really good before I cap the other end. I'll probably seal it with the gas tank sealer from Caswell Plating, it's worked well for me in the past on chopper tanks. Not as nice as 41 Willy's, this is the amature build!!

I was looking at my doors today and found out some bad news. The passenger door I took off needs some repair but is okay, the problem is the drivers side door doesn't match, it's really close but a bit different. It doesn't have the ridge on the top like my other door and the latch is smaller. The real crappy part is it hasn't got any rust holes, it's in pretty good shape. Any ideas where this is from and where to get a drivers side door from?? The first two are the proper door and the other three are the mystery door. Imight be able to make a lip on the top but I have to see if it fits and I hate to chop it if I can't use it.
Also can you buy new latches and locking door handles or do I have to go to bear claws now???

Finished welding up my fuel tank yesterday, first project that I've used my Tig welder on so I'm pretty happy it turned out OK. I had originally run out of Argon for it and thought I'd just finish it up with the mig but I ended up with leaks on the mig side. So instead of patching leaks I just cut off that side and made a new panel that fit a lot better as well. I really like how you can just go back and redo a section with the Tig without building up more bead, still lots of practice needed!!!

Been a while since I posted any thing. I ended up finding a '31 Model A body in such good shape I had to buy it. I pulled it all apart and squared it up yesterday, started building a sub-floor and then today I reversed the firewall and mounted it on my frame. I didn't realize how much work went into switching the firewall around, it took me four hours.
I had just disassembled everything for paint and now I have to put it all back together. I was pretty happy that it fit exactly the same as the Model T body, almost better. I hardly have any patching to do on this one and the doors are already in good shape so I think in the long run I'll actually save time. I think I'll go with a 4" chop and I kinda like the small rake it's sitting at now, only about 3" up towards the back. It'll sit about 6" at the front and 8-9" at the rear.
I channeled this one only 4" so with 1" body mounts pads it leaves my frame 1" below the sheetmetal. That way if I scrape it's the 3/8" metal tubing and not my paint. You can't even tell from the side. Only problem is now I'm thinking I should shorten my frame to get the front Z into the cowl.
As always any input is welcome, this is my first and a half car.

I'd say you did find a nice Model A body!!
Very solid. You'll have more room probably than the T body too. Nice thing about Tudor bodies is very little wood.
Looks good on that frame too.

Great find sgo like Don says a little bigger so a little extra leg room . You dug right in with it also , clean indented firewall makes it a late 31 . Car looks great sitting on the frame .
One of the P O cut mine out with a torch so that leaves me alot of fabbing there .

I haven't posted for a while, been working too much.
Had to turn the firewall back around to line up with my frame tabs, M/C, and such. Don't really need room for the engine anyway. I've just been working away at the sub floor, decided to go with a console down the middle instead of just a tunnel. I'm just starting to sheet it now. I wanted a solid tie in to the firewall so I put some 1/8" plate around the front, really sturdy now but I'm gonna have to get in there with the grinder to make it as pretty as Don's
.
Can't really finish until I get my rear axle mounted. I got the Ford 9" off an '86 F150, it's 57" wide so it should work a little better. I decided I didn't want to make new control arms so I just ordered a triangulated four bar kit from these guys:
http://suicidedoors.com/HeavyDutyUni...4-LinkKit.php#
Kinda steep but seems like the going rate and I can cut these to whatever length I want.
I also ended up with a lot more room in the rear so I got a 17 Gal. RCI aluminum fuel cell. Comes with all the AN fittings and filler spout. I'm gonna try to mount it off to one side and I think I'll have enough room for the battery beside it (hope).
Oh yea I spent about 5 hours stripping out the old wood and boxing the pillers. That stuff is hard to remove.

Looking good Sean. That work stuff sure does interfere with a guy's Hot Rodding time, doesn't it??? Oh well, if it was quick and easy everybody would be doing it!!!! Been there done that on the wood stuff!!! Wait till you do a chebbie sedan from that era, them things are nailed together!!!

I even tried my angle grinder to cut it out and I think I riled up the Natives with all the smoke
. I keep thinking I'd like to do some wood trim or wood supports for the roof cap....we'll see.
Thanks for the input,
Sean
