    Here's another coilover question

     



    I think I got things figured out and then I find something else . I put these together and thought there should be some sort of locking mechanism to keep the lower adjustment from loosening up???? And what are the two zap straps for???

    Hmmmm. I don't know what those are for. Any mention of them in the directions? As for locking the adjusting ring so it doesn't come loose, generally there are allen head set screws that you tighten up once you have it where you want it..............but I can't tell from your picture is that is what you have.

    All else fails, call the mfr.

    I might have to call tomorrow, there are some cone shaped holes around the ring but they don't go through. I wonder if they were pilot holes for that and didn't get finished. I was starting to think the straps were to hold it....somehow???? I thought it would be like my dirtbike and have two rings that tighten together.

    I guess I could drill and tap the holes out and put my own set screws in, there is a notch running vertically down the threads.

    No, I don't think you have to go through that step. They have some system obviously to hold them. Nice looking coilovers BTW.

    I think a phone call will clear it right up.

    there is a step on the ajustment collar that should go up and a big washer will set on the spring collar look like you have the collar up side down

    Yup, turn the adjuster nut around and drill and tap the screw holes so you can use an allen head screw to lock the adjuster nut down. Yes, the screw tip does go into the slot on the shock body.

    I got a set of these coilovers from Speedway , about $140 for the
    complete unit . The wire ties are for the top spring cup, since there was no
    locking device , I drilled and tapped the bottom ring for set screws .
    As Pat said the collor is upside down . There was no large washer included with it.

    I would have guessed the zip ties were for tracking piston travel.

    1. Tie one each to the shock piston @ ride height.
    2. drive the car.
    3. check where the tie is positioned on the piston to determine how far the shock compressed during the drive.
    (a check to make sure the shock isn't bottoming or topping out while driving).

    the washer is a thrust washer if not supplied you may want to pick some up makes it easier to tune the height in when the car is on the ground .or not they work with out to just harder to turn the collar

    Allright thanks, I'll turn them around. There is no washer for them and the reason I mounted the adjuster this way is because there is a step on the inside that I figured was to fit over the snap ring around the shock, the other side doesn't have anything. That being said I've never had a set of these so I'll listen to you guys.

    You had the sleeve part on right , the c'bored end goes to the snap ring.
    The collar ( nut) part should have the side with the small boss to the
    spring . It would be nice if they included directions .

    It's absolutely amazing how many parts come with no instructions or very vague instructions. It seems the manufacturers have a hard time generating something that John Q Public can understand to properly use their product.

    You have the sleeve correct and that step should wedge down over the snap ring on the shock just as you said. Your adjuster nut is upside down,when you take it off to turn it around watch carefully as i have seen some adjuster nuts that uses a small spring and a nylon ball as a detent to hold the adjustment. Do you feel a click as one of those un drilled holes aligns with the sleeves slot ???
    If not just drill and tap one of the holes for a set screw, or ya could do like we use to on the midgets, just throw a wrap of 200 mph tape around it
    And the wire ties are to secure the upper spring cup to the spring so it does'nt fall apart when ya jack the car up by the frame.

    yep a 1/4 brass set screw would do i fine job of keeping the collar nut from moveing if needed

    I manufacture a line of race car parts and quite often I get calls from customers with questions on instalition of parts , when I ask if they read the
    directions they said no. When I write the directions I give them to my wife.
    If she dosn't understand them I will rewrite them untill she can understand them. But to get some people to read them thats a tough one .
