    That is the chemical reaction between the acid & metal.
    I Googled "painting after using phosphoric acid" and most say to wipe the metal down w/alcohol before painting after using phosphoric acid....

    Use Phosphoric acid on the rusted areas & it'll...

    Use Phosphoric acid on the rusted areas & it'll clean it right up. You may have to treat it a couple of times but it will eat the rust up...joe
