    1938 custom

Hey guys not sure where my build belongs it's kinda a rat rod kinda a hotrod.
I'll let you guys be the judge!
So I started with a 1938 cadillac 4 door had a flat head and 3 on the tree ! Car was bone stock only 36k org documented miles.i bought it from org owner family. This car was basically rust free with exception of a dime sized spot on fire wall by body mount!
So the goal was cheap build as I was already building a dodge charger but was getting board of a nut and bolt resto!
So I started on this with an idea in my head I had someone do a photo chop to get an idea of out come! So main goal was chop top 3" make car into a 2 door from a 4 door put on air ride get a more modern driveline and brakes. And to make the car dark, creepy ,
The idea was if the devil had a car what would he drive!
So I came you with the design the cars name is Sinner.

I've been working on this awhile now I couldn't find a site to share on as apparently rat rod is a bad word now !

So as you can see in pictures I started with a nice body I cut roof off cut 3 " out of roof four roof was now to short so I had to shorten the body by 3" to get roof back in place! Then I started on getting rid of two extra doors I cut 10" out of rear door added 7 of those " to the front door and other 3 was to shorten body ! I then moved the b pillar back 7" to accommodate new front doors !
I also started installing the suicide door kits ! All this got done on drivers side so far . I took a break for awhile to tend to new born!
After some time I finally got back on project I decided to get the frame done before doing anything else . So I found bought a Chevy 305 out of a 85 trans am rebuilt it . Was looking for a full frame to swap under car not much has come up found a 79 el co for free grabbed it and got frame but after further review not going to fly!
So I said I'll cut the front and rear section off and weld onto the cadillac frame well rear lined up perfect front was way off! So I decided to look for something else decided on a 79 Camaro sub frame! Got one for $200
So started cutting and welding got the frames all spliced together ! Went to clean up the rear from the el co well it's trashed inside! Got two choices rebuild or find another well rebuild seemed expensive so I got to looking I found a rear for $200 that was rebuilt. Only issue was it wasn't what he said it was it was for a 1970 chevelle well this is an issue and not the el co rear was a tad narrow the new rear put wheels back in stock location.
Yada yada cleaned /frame up undercoated it installed rear and front susp got air ride installed on rear got body out of shed and reinstalled. I am now getting a few bugs worked out like clearance issues here and there. This is where I'm at now I don't like the rear bag placement now so I'm changing that .
    I'm working on pictures

Ambitious project, Sixty Specials are a gorgeous car, I hope you have the skill to do it justice.

A fellow down in Australia is modifying a Sixty Special also, into a convertible coupe with a removeable roof. I'll post the digital rendering that Rik Hoving did for him to get him going. Last report he did he's pretty much done with the pre-finish body work, looks very close to the rendering.

Ambitious project? Amen to that! First, welcome to CHR and we look forward to witnessing your progress! Second, your project is a hot rod to me! If you start making changes for shock appeal or constructing to grab attention without regard for safety and integrity you can start calling it a rat rod, and will likely lose most followers here. A hot rod without shiny paint is NOT a rat rod!

    Wowzer Zowzer!

This thing is beyond ambitious. What a fantastic undertaking and it sound to me like you not only willing to mix-an-match but want this to be a quality and safely constructed hot rod. I laud your use of a 305 as it will have plenty of power for your project. Frame looks good as well.

Thanks for joining in - while we too have a bunch of 65+ members, we're easy to get along with and appreciate beauty in a lot of forms. You'll do just fine here. Keep the pictures coming.

LOL besides old farts there's a bunch who weren't even a gleam in their daddy's eye in the 50's and '60's, but they're trying to tell you what it was like "....back in the day!"

    LOL! Ain't that the truth!
The real difference between that site and this one, most of us here lived it and really enjoyed it, I guess that's why we aren't as cranky as they are! LOL!!!

Come to think of it, isn't that why it's called the "Hockey A$$ Message Board"..........

Very cool project you have going! I like that you are cutting it up makin it how you want and keeping it on a budget. Every time I try that I always blow that budget thing. I also agree, I don't see any thing ratty about it. Very nice work! Also welcome to CHR!!!

And welcome aboard from Godzone Downunder.
That's an ambitious project alright; most astonishing good luck to you.
