1916 olds

this is 1916 olds, cool car weird motor design i have never seen

Um, it's a flathead V-8. Similar to the Ford the came out 16 years later. Olds was a 'higher' class car and had V-8's from 1916 to 1921.

i know its flat but im talking about is that the exhasut and intake are both on top the motor not out the sides

Cadillac flathead V8's were designed the same way except for the distributor being in the back.

theres a guy in Minn. that i talk to that has a reverse flow 350 chevy carbs are where the exhaust go and exhaust where the intake goes im going to see if i can get a picture

Is that thing for real?
If it is, it sure looks like it makes it a lot simpler to route the carbs and exhaust!

yup and it runs , pretty different . but i suppose i should swear and stuff and call them all names so i dont fit in, because i didnt invent the hotrod so i have no place unless im like them

Theoretically, it's not that hard. Just change the cam so that the exhaust valves open in the intake stroke, etc. It's obvious that he's using the exhaust ports for intake and vice-versa, so the flow characteristics would be crap unless there was extensive head work done - such as porting and switching the intake and exhaust valve seats.

That comes under my "what's the point" list.

Well gasser, as you know I don't usually agree with you on much, and that's OK, but I have to admit that 350 takes the cake. I've never heard of such. I wonder if the owner if an engineering student or something? Chaulk it up to the most unusual list.

when i talk to him on the phone he told me he work for GM design you could tell just by talking to him

Well, it certainly is a unique engine!! I would have to agree that without extensive redesigning on the heads and valve train, performance wise it would be a real pooch!!! You can put me on the "why bother" list....
