    New builder

Hey, i recently got into the hotrod scene, my friends pressured me into but it but now that i am im stoaked! i just recently came accross a 1954 GMC pickup in a nearby city. It's in nice condition even though it was in a house fire about 10 years ago. The paint was burned off but makes the truck look very cool in my opinion, it has minor rust, and the firewall cables were torched. The engine runs and the E-brake works only the brakes need some tunning. The guy just rebuilt the carb and the interior was recently redone with minor scracthes or holes. Almost everything is original on it, except for the fuel cell the guy threw in because the gas tank needs to be boiled. and hes selling it for $3500. i offered a trade for my 92 ford f150 plus a grand from him. i was wondering if this would be a good trade, becuase my friend seems to think so but i wanted to make sure its a good investment, thanks

You can never go wrong in a trade if both parties come away happy. 54 GMC is a cool truck, and I might as well jump on this " It aint a Ford" now I'll catch he77.

    Without pictures, hard to tell.

Based on the way I interpret your description, it sounds WAY overpriced

Seems to me you're giving up a lot for a rusty truck with no brakes that has been in a fire.... There is no sheet metal harder to repair and make straight then sheet metal that has been through a fire.....

Sounds a little pricey to me. I think the guy has been watching too much Boyd Coddington.

As long as you're not real attached to your 92 F150, then I'd have to say you're always better off with a (torched) GMC. I had a '49 Chevy pickup, and I still miss it.

From the pics, it dosent appear that the fire was too intense. The sheet metal looks pretty straight. But that body style (49-54?) are all over the place yet. I dont know what they are bringing in price wise in your area but that seems like TOP dollar to me! What do you care if its got the original driveline? You said you were gonna build a rod, not restore it! Id offer him an even trade at most. But cash wise, maybe 1800-2500 tops! But thats just my opinion......
