WD40 can be a horror story if you have to repaint. It contaminates the existing paint layers with silicone, and can cause "fisheyes", or places where the paint will draw back while it's wet, leaving pits in the new paint. I have had such disasters from this, that I won't even allow any on the property.

I don't think WD-40 is the one that is so dangerous under new paint it is "Silicone" sprays
