Ok well as most of you know I just purchased a 85 Chevy truck. The paint on it is original (seems the bed and a few other things have had a repaint) and some spots its just primer starting to poke through like little circles from the old paint just getting old. It's not peeling or anything like that. I buffed it up some and cleaned the truck real nice and it seems that I think I can go over this paint by scruffing it up. Now here is where I need help. Can someone look over my quick plans here of what I plan to do and see if this is correct....
First I will strip the truck apart since the jambs will need to be painted and the dash, etc. I will then fix all the dents by sanding the dents and around them to bare metal and then lay my body filler. I will sand the body filler out with.... 220 I think it is and get that all level and smooth. After this, scruff the whole thing up with about 400 grit. After prepping it all and getting a temp spray booth set up, etc I will then tape everything off and then prime the bondo spots with about 2 coats. (I will do a guide coat before all this of course). Then after I do those spots do I sand them with about 400 or just go ahead, let them dry and go over the whole truck with about 3 coats and then wet sand with either 400 or 600 and then paint the truck?
I may have left out a few little things here and there but is that the basic? Also can I just go back over the old original paint since it's still in good shape? This is just about what I did to my friends Camaro and it came out real nice (just ask SprayTech, he is the one who has helped me TONS)!
Thanks a lot for any advise here.
