Droppin' in to say hi
just found this forum today. must say that finding a place to share ideas with others is kinda cool. just wondering if anyone else is working on Packard 8's & v8's out there? I got a couple that I'm setting up to run turbos. The Straight-8 is going in a 1949 Hudson p.u., and the v8 is going into a Henry-J when I find one. Just gotta love these old engines!

Welcom to CHR turbo, I hear those old packard engines were indestructible. What was the cubic deplacement on the straight eights?Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

I sold two 56 Packards last year. The V8 was a great engine. It really moved that heavy car. It should be awesome in the Henry J. The Clipper engine is 320 c.i. and the Clipper "Custom" and "Caribbean" are 352 c.i. It has a 4" bore and a 3.5 stroke.
A detuned version of the Packard 320 was used in Hudson Hornets and Nash Ambassadors in 1955.
The August 1955 issue of hot rod magazine has a detailed five page article about the Packard V8s by Racer Brown titled "How potent is Packards V8?". I can scan it and email it if you can't find a copy on ebay.Last edited by The Al Show; 03-21-2004 at 05:57 AM.

Changed the shocks yesterday to OEM spec Monroe, they are still gas shocks. Disappointed that the ride is still very firm, it is not as bad but I was hoping for better. Might have something to do...
