Excellent dash Bob. Very classic look! Nice job. Steve.
no bob i never used a jet look s nice, i have used EDM and wire to cut out parts. have you ever used that ? it works very good as well :)
Real nice instrument panel looks new .
Interesting panel. What's it out of?
That's beautiful, Bob. It's going to look great in your car.
Uncle Bob, I have a dash full of VDO gauges that I would trade even - and it would even be a direct replacement, except for the paint color - your Western acrylic vs my DuPont Venetian Orange.
Great looking
Thanks for the kind words fellas.
Pat, I haven't done anything with EDM, but I find the process fascinating. We've got (or probably more accurately, had) a lot of machine shops around this area, mostly to support a certain aircraft manufacturer of some repute, and EDM was somewhat common.
Dave, by the time all the updating is done I'll wish I had the price point of the VDO pieces. As for the color, hey, a little pinstriping and nobody would notice!:whacked:
Resto............you've asked the $64k question. The guy that was selling it said he thought it was from an Essex. But being a former Hudson guy I've never seen an Essex panel that looked like this. Essex gauges generally have a hex shape to them. Panels like this are "common" in mid to late '20s, some creeping into early '30s cars. I've done some web searching and the closest I've come to this design is in a REO automobile, but haven't found the exact match. The guts are Stewart Warner, but that's pretty common for most gauge sets of that era. One of these days I'll pin it down.
Started on taking apart the back today. There are some rear corner panels that bolted on; I was going to leave them on when I painted it but i decided there was probably a lot of rust under them so I battled about 20 1/4-20 rusted bolts and got them off. I'm glad I did, there was a lot of hidden surface rust underneath. Also changed my mind about painting around the winshield seal and pulled the glass. Found the seal at JC Whitney, of all places. Lots of ginding and rustproofing today, but I think I'm making good progress.
As always, you have again proven that it's a whole lot easier to do it right the first time then to come back later and do it over!!!! The body is looking good!!!!
What are you building Falconvan : ) that is going to look neat! Make sure to show more pictures of your progress! I want see your build!
Thanks, grandpa! Watching your builds for the last few years has much improved my technique, so thank you for all the good advice. By the way, I just found out my new granddaughter will be here next Thursday morning at 7:30! My daughters doctor scheduled her for a "C" section.
Yesterday - a crowning glory day - I FINALLY finished the wiring on my car:D
I do need to do the last checkout of one system(cruise control), but all of the wires, switches, senders and read outs are in place, everything seems to work as designed by me as well as others. The fan turns on, the trunk lid goes up and down, the temp gauge works for both the coolant and tranny fluid, the lights all work, including the directionals (they're LEDs and needed a load resistor to operate), the engine runs. Now, I can finish installing the upholstery and bolt the cowl cover and hood on, then pray for spring and clear roads.
Pictures soon of my job (cable ties are sharp and cause sticky red splotches to happen)
Whoooooopeeeee
(It only took 16 months to wire:CRY:)
