Thanks for the kind words fellas.
Pat, I haven't done anything with EDM, but I find the process fascinating. We've got (or probably more accurately, had) a lot of machine shops around this area, mostly to support a certain aircraft manufacturer of some repute, and EDM was somewhat common.
Dave, by the time all the updating is done I'll wish I had the price point of the VDO pieces. As for the color, hey, a little pinstriping and nobody would notice!
Resto............you've asked the $64k question. The guy that was selling it said he thought it was from an Essex. But being a former Hudson guy I've never seen an Essex panel that looked like this. Essex gauges generally have a hex shape to them. Panels like this are "common" in mid to late '20s, some creeping into early '30s cars. I've done some web searching and the closest I've come to this design is in a REO automobile, but haven't found the exact match. The guts are Stewart Warner, but that's pretty common for most gauge sets of that era. One of these days I'll pin it down.Last edited by Bob Parmenter; 12-10-2009 at 07:20 PM.
