I remember that well, I left in Sept of 72. The real problem was diesels and factory emissions and the fact that the LA basin is sided to the north, east and somewhat to the south by mountains and the ocean to the west. When the tides come in it bring along with it heavy moisture laden air which head east only to bounce off the mountains and head back west over the basin and thus you have smog in the basin. At one time there were more, maybe still is, more OTR trucks registered in california than any other state with NO emission controls and therein was/is the problem. They've run all of the industry off so they can't be blamed anymore and they finally required emission controls on diesel engines, why do you think Mercedes quit selling diesel cars for a few years? And have you ever been behind a bus in the LA area in the 60's? You needed a gas mask if you had to follow the thing very far. California is only progressive when it comes to spending other peoples money, other wise it's full of fruits, nuts and stupid liberals.Ken Thomas
