And I will disagree with you when it comes to the early systems, they were JUNK, pure unadulterated JUNK.
When I came back from overseas in 64 my dad had bought me a pristine 57 Ford Custom that he found at the dealer up around La Habra where he bought his brand new T-bird. Since it came from a dealer it had to be smogged with a primitive pcv system that plugged the road draft tube amongst other things. I came home in June and a couple of months later I was heading back to Anaheim from dropping a buddy off in Santa Fe Springs when all of a sudden there was a large bang under the hood and close to two quarts of oil on the right side of the windshield and the rest of the car. I pulled into a gas station down the block and discovered that the crankcase pressure had been so great that it blew the dipsitck out of it's tube, denting the hood and blowing the oil on the windshield. I put 2 quarts of oil in the engine and the next morning when I pulled the rubber cork out of the road draft tube I made one hell of a mess on my dad's driveway. I put a vented cap back on the oil filler tube a shit canned the pcv valve and plugged the hoses but the damaged had been done to the bearings. What a waste and if pcv systems are so great then why do you still have smog in so. california?Ken Thomas
