Yep. that would make me smile too see her sitting that sweat. You want to be able to drive her without the constant worry about clearance issues. You could always bag her up and sent her down to me to look after once you have it back together of course. That would help tidy the workshop up somewhat.

I'm also for shooting for May, probably will be June but willing to accept July, however I will settle for August, Although it would make a nice anniversary present for my wife in Sept.

Ryan, (to my eye) the hood is good.. the whole rear needs to rise up an inch ( or so)... but that could just be the picture too.?.?.?

Nice to see the progress, and getting time with the kids. priceless!

This morning I had the boys with me. I had to go remove a valve body from a trans to sell to get more hot rod parts. While I was there, I grabbed my running boards. I took the boys to get breakfast and when we got back, they "helped" me on the car. My wife is going to love me. She already shakes her head.

I put the LH running board on and lowered the car to where I decided can be the ride height. It isn't too low, but close I'm guessing. It has 5 3/8" in between the ground and the bottom of the front of the running board. And 5 1/2" in the rear. Now I can measure my well openings, get the axle center lines marked out, get the frame leveled, and begin the new MII cross member install.

Thanks. I don't remember a lot of stuff from the time that I was the same age as my sons. I do remember little bits and pieces though. Hopefully this time with them will keep them in the garage and have a want to learn as they get older. The youngest was under the car on my creeper the other morning with a squirt gun pretending it was a drill. Helping me drill holes since that was what I was doing. I have extra safety glasses and ear protection for them. Finding little people sized PPE is pretty tough though.

Ok, back to the car. Thanks to you guys, I have been picking up tricks and buying small stuff to help my work be more accurate. This morning I got the frame as close to level as it wanted to get. I found the center of the front wheel wells, and got the frame marked out. I even used some of my spray on lay out fluid for the first time. Right now my axle center line is 18" in front of the front of the fire wall. On both sides. I'm pretty happy about that. Both sides matched up. I'm going to measure from some other points to make sure my marks are as close to perfect as I can get. Tomorrow I'll remove the front fenders and grill. Then it will be time to weld up my cross member and then fit it.

What to you guys think? Should I make the bottom of the front cross member be level with the bottom of the middle of the frame? Or have it higher a little to make going over speed bumps and intersections easier? I just realized that I will have to remark my lines on the frame. I used a square from the floor up to mark the lines. I'll just need to use a different square to make the lines square with the frame instead of the floor since I know the frame isn't level right there due to the frame kick up and down etc.

I also stuck one of the tires I have for the rear under it to see if it would fit. The tire has room all around it so hopefully the wheel and rear end combo can be achieved to accommodate the tires.

Ain't that the truth!!!!! I run into the same thing with my grandsons, gloves in a small size can sometimes be a challenge too. Besides the places grownups buy the PPE, you might also check shooting supply places. I envy you having the kids out there.......now that school is back in session I don't see the grandkids quite as much. Cade's at the point where the computer is more interesting than Grandpa now and I suspect it will get worse when he discovers girls

I had two auto darkening helmets for when my kids used to come in the shop, before they became " cool " I made my cross member just a tick lower than everything else, like the oil pan. Right or wrong thats how it is now.

I wasn't able to get a lot accomplished this weekend. I finally sold off the 2001 Excursion I had setting in the drive way. But, the guy whom purchased it wanted me to deliver it, or he couldn't buy it. He offered to give me $115 to haul it the 75 miles to Garden Grove. I didn't really want to, but I really wanted it gone. He was the only one who actually showed up with cash to buy it. So I agreed.

A few weeks ago my middle brother borrowed my trailer to take his 3 bay Matco tool box to his job in Oskaloosa. He told me then that the trailer was blowing fuses on our Mom's truck. Of course he didn't look into it as to why it was blowing them. Haha Yeah. Apparently when my youngest brother borrowed the trailer, the LH brake/turn light was out. So instead of going and getting a new lamp, he presidential solutioned a marker lamp in there. Not only was the lamp the incorrect shape, he just twisted the wires, and zip tied them together. No tape, no protection. I wonder why it was shorting inside the pocket? Not only was that jacked, due to the continuous shorting, the trailer plug got hot and ruined it too. So I replaced the connector, and installed some expensive truck lite LED's to replace the old lamps. I've been wanting LED's back there for a while. But I would have rather not spent the money on the trailer now. I sucked it up and did it seeing how I do use it and it needs to be safe. I told my wife I'm about ready to sell this goose neck trailer and get a pintle hitch trailer since no one I know has a hitch for one. That may keep them from borrowing it. Nah, they'll just want to steal my hitch too.

With that done, I loaded the wife and kids and we began the trek. Everything went well and on the way back we were able to stop at a great restaurant in Osceola Iowa. It was really good. I told the family when the 40 is done, we'll have to drive down for their town car show and eat at the restaurant again.

Saturday was a no progress day for the 40. Sunday we went grocery shopping and I took the family out for breakfast. I was able to get the front suspension cross member put together and welded up. I also had the help from the boys to remove the front sheet metal off the car. I started making my marks for the cross member and the upper hats. Hopefully this week I can get the front cross member installed. That will be a huge step forward for this car.

Oh yeah, we did get more white stuff, and I managed to get the stacks set in the blue Ford. The laundry list is getting smaller. Hopefully the owner will be showing up with lots of C notes soon.
