Well, Mike, these aren't great pics but I got the patching of the "no" rust finished and started working on smoothing out the "no" dents that were hiding under the "no" bondo.

I sprayed it with a rattle can guide coat so I can sorta see my progress. I still have a ways to go but it's far better than it was. A skim-coat of filler on this would be way thinner than what it had!!

Also after using the heat gun to dig out more of the old undercoating, etc that was slathered on the inside of the tailpan, I'm convinced this tailpan has been replaced before. The inner tool compartment seems to be in pretty good shape but this outer skin has to come out for sure. Need to get a spot-weld cutter to drill out the welds on the bottom edge. Then I'll be able to develop a plan of attack....
