I recall the stories of Steve McQueen having a VW Bug sporting a Porsche engine that surprised a lot of folks around SOCAL, but I'd never heard about the one that Paul Newman had built - a 351W mid-engine screamer! This is a link to OldBug where the car is listed at a cool $250K The Paul Newman V8 Beetle, but it shows several old articles from Hot Rod and other period magazines, showing the story of the car.

Once I saw the pictures in the magazine and the "Cool Hand" title, I do remember seeing that article years ago. Paul was quite the racer. Neat story and car, thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting. Paul loved performance, and he could be seen driving around Connecticut in his Porsche 911.
