Nice job :D
Beautiful job bear.
Jack.
What are you planning to use to fill the roof?
Roof will be canvas sliding top sorta like a vw but look more like model A when closed..
Nice engine.
Dreddy,
Did you gas weld the new metal to the old metal or use the mig? Maybe even tig? I ask because I have tried the mig with poor results. I have better results with the tig but still not as good as I would like.
Great thread, keep it going.:):):)
Jack.
Cool carb setup!
Mig. I use .023 wire and turn the heat all the way down. Make sure the panel fit is perfectly butted up against each other and stitch the panel, going slow and moving around alot and being patient. I clean it up with the edge of a cutoff wheel on a die grinder and finish with roloc disks.:)
Thanks Dreddy,
Will give mig another try using your method.
Jack.
lookin very nice! I like the low stance with the coker(?) whitewalls tires!
Nice work!
Just curious: What will your windshield glass opening be?
Here in Wisconsin it needs to be 7" min. which pretty much dictates max chop.
Hmm. Dunno. Here in Texas we do what we want :D I'm sure I have 7"

Keep up the progress.

Congratulations On both scoring that beautiful lady as your bride and having the car finished enough to use on your special day, well done.
Just found this thread so have read it through and man what an awesome car, love everything about it,man do I want that Caddy motor.
looking killer!
Awesome job man! and I thought my 31 was bad, This give me hope and inspiration seeing you take a car that rusted and turn it into a work of art :D
wow dreddy that is a really sweet ride. hope that when mine is done that it sounds as good as yours.
Congratulations on your wedding! Must have been cool with your friends following in their cars too. And of course, Congrats especially on your car. Gives me some incentive to get going again on my Essex RS coupe. My car needs an awful lot of body work also. It's intimidating. Never done bodywork like that before, and haven't any machinery to make patch panels. sigh. Perley
thanks!
Just attack that thing. If you have a hammer and some sheetmetal you can make it work! Just jump in! If it's a complicated panel, just make smaller sections and join em up:)
Also I wanna make a point to anyone who may be attempting this for the first time, alot of cars you see in magazines or on message boards these days are metal finished to such a high degree it makes people think they need all this experience and toools to build their own car. Not true. You may not be able to get it perfect in metal, but close enough that the average skim coat of bondo will do. This is more reasonable, plus I dont care who built it, if you want smooth, shiny paint then even the finest metal finished car is gonna get some filler.:) So BUILD em and have fun and dont get stuck on the little things!
sound advice dreddybear. that goes for most aspects of a car. there are so many ways to do things and yet I always get hung up trying to do it the way its "supposed" to be done instead of just using my head to get the job done and move on. I can't wait to build my next car using everything I have learned this time around :3dSMILE:
It's been a while but I figured i could update a little

I used a DA and a lot of Hand sanding just to get the car in bare metal:

The firewall on this car was screwed. Someone at some point just hacked a hole in it. When I was getting it ready for the wedding I didnt have time to deal with it so I left it open.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...ps2a76d61e.jpg
Closed up the gaping hole and patched some areas. The keyhole looking thing on the left is where the coil top pops through the firewall. Need to move that up top.

There we go. Also patched where the two bolt thingies were up there. Now about that gas neck...

I had this 53 Ford dash. Well I found a pair of 54 Vicky door panels. Figured it might just work:

Cut them down and sorta tacked em in:

Now I have this night where I can't make alot of noise. Perfect time to polish a windshield frame. The little welds at the corners were a pain to get rid of.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...ps9df01d2d.jpg
And I need to make the swing out part work. I moved the studs down since the car is chopped and made these little brakets that screw to the frame. I have no idea how close to factory it is but it works for
me.
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...ps6fbc3a6f.jpg
So now finally for the first time ever I have a swing out windshield. Pretty excited about that!
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...ps2b52de63.jpg
I'm hoping to get a little more done before the body goes back on this week.
I whipped up a little firewall cover
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d2...psc561b9b0.jpg
And then my friends came over and we dropped the body on this thing.

Whew! And what an update it was!! You've been busy and it shows, a lot of great work there. Thanks for the pics also.
And I only hope that you aren't out in the workshop toooo much and neglecting that lovely bride tooo much mate.....;) . I do appreciate the little extras you have invested in like the vinyl covers that really takes your car to another level, wow, outstanding, great ideas and they really suit the style of car you are building.
